Jungle Scout Function Test: Is this "Amazon Product Selection Tool" Worth Using?

Jungle Scout Function Test: Is this "Amazon Product Selection Tool" Worth Using?

Jungle Scout is a powerful tool for any FBA seller. It is even called the "Amazon product selection tool". This tool is really suitable for understanding specific niche markets and focusing on quantifying Amazon metrics (BSR, estimated monthly sales, profit, etc.). This article will be based on real user reviews and experience, and help sellers understand how to use Jungle Scout and whether it is worth using.

Jungle Scout has a web app version that allows sellers to use Amazon's best-selling product database and search for products. It also has a Chrome plug-in version that allows sellers to view relevant data directly when browsing Amazon product pages.

Differences between Jungle Scout Chrome extension and Web App

The two versions of Jungle Scout work closely together to meet the different needs of sellers in the product research stage. However, the two have completely different functions.

The Chrome plug-in is used to help sellers collect specific data and information about specific Amazon products. Sellers can use this tool directly when browsing Amazon product pages.

The Jungle Scout Web App can help users find products from various filters and track product data over a period of time. The Web App cannot be used when browsing the Amazon website. It only runs in the cloud of the Jungle Scouts website and has more functions.

Jungle Scout Web App Version

The Web App version is designed to help sellers select products. It is like a search engine for sellers, which can give sellers some ideas about products. Jungle Scout Web App features include:

(1)Jungle Scout product database

Jungle Scout Product Database allows sellers to filter the Amazon catalog. The filters are for sellers only. Sellers can filter here according to all possible criteria to find and analyze interesting products.

Some important features have been highlighted in red in the screenshot above:

Select your Amazon site and one or more categories.

Set the desired filters, such as price weight, rating and minimum monthly sales;

Choose to view FBA, FBM (fulfillment by Amazon), or Amazon self-operated products;

You can add or exclude keywords, which is useful for excluding materials, such as "stainless steel".

Then you will see the corresponding listing results:

(2) Jungle Scout product tracker

Jungle Scout's product tracker allows you to track and monitor sales, inventory, BSR ranking, and other relevant information over time. The tool can be automated, allowing you to monitor inventory for any ASIN. The maximum inventory quantity is 999, and if it is less than 999, it will show the exact amount of inventory. Sellers can repeat this process for multiple days in a row and monitor changes in product quantities to better understand sales.

It’s important to export your results and track your data over several days (weeks, or even a month) because you can’t know that a certain company just sold 50 units of a product the day before and suddenly improved their ranking on Amazon.

(3) Jungle Scout Niche Hunter (Find niche products)

Niche Hunter is one of the most powerful features in the Web App. It allows you to find specific niche products based on relevant criteria such as demand, competition, etc.

In this tool, you just need to set some variables. In the example above, removing all filters, the result is as follows:

*Note : Niche Hunter is included in the Jungle Scout Standard version.

What is the difference between product database and niche hunter?

If you want to check product demand, then the product database is better. Niche Hunter is better for detecting untapped niche products.

How to use Jungle Scout Niche Hunter

There are several filters in Niche Hunter, such as category, average sales, average price, opportunity score, competition, etc. For example, set the price to $20, the minimum sales volume to 300, the opportunity score to 90, and the gardening supplies category (Patio, Lawn & Garden), then you can adjust the criteria to narrow or expand the results:

Using the example above, you would get the following result:

You’ll notice there’s a niche product called “pelletized gypsum.” Now you can expand and look at the best-selling products in that niche.

And data about the entire niche:

(4) Keyword Scout

Keyword Scout is a newer feature in Jungle Scout that is mainly used for keyword research. This feature was launched in May 2018, and its accuracy is still uncertain, but it is a great feature. It has a reverse ASIN lookup to check competitor keywords:

Having accurate and extensive search volume for keywords can also help optimize PPC advertising keyword costs:

Keyword Scout is included in the Jungle Scout Web App’s Starter, Standard, and Business plans, so you don’t have to pay anything extra.

Jungle Scout Chrome Extension

It allows sellers to research products directly when browsing listings or search pages. Estimated sales are within 30 days, and here you can also see BSR, historical prices, ratings, and more details.

If you enter your Amazon MWS API key, you will receive additional data. In addition to these main features, it is possible to integrate other functions, such as direct access to Google Trends, understand the seasonal characteristics of products or set filters directly in the plugin.

How accurate is Jungle Scout?

Jungle Scout’s data is accurate, but sellers should be careful about using Jungle Scout or any other similar tool to predict how much to purchase new products. While these tools provide good average sales, they can also produce some numerical errors and may cause you to miss out on products that actually sell very well.

Jungle Scout estimates sales based on BSR. When you check, the BSR may suddenly increase, resulting in inaccurate sales data, thus affecting your decision.

Some new product sellers can temporarily boost their BSR by giving away a lot of freebies in the last week. A product with 50 reviews can have a BSR of 100. Jungle Scout will estimate that the product sells 5,000 units per month and has a monthly revenue of $100,000, when in fact the product has only had one organic sale and has not generated any profit. This has nothing to do with Jungle Scout itself, but sellers should still be aware of it.

Also, sellers should be careful when using Jungle Scout’s cost estimator, as many sellers often enter incorrect product weights and dimensions.

For example, if someone is selling a product through FBM and there is no corresponding FBA seller for the product, Jungle Scout will pull the size and weight information from the FMB merchant, which will generally be wrong. Before sourcing any products, sellers use the FBA calculator in Seller Central to see the actual costs. This is a free tool and it can confirm that the data is 100% accurate.

Is Jungle Scout a must for private label sellers?

It is not necessary. There are many sellers who are successful in selecting products without using this tool. It just helps sellers save time.

Without Jungle Scout, creating a spreadsheet and filling it with all the same information would take about 20 minutes per product. With Jungle Scout, all the same information can be obtained in about 3 seconds.

How to Find High-Profit Products Using Jungle Scout

Now, more and more sellers use Jungle Scout to select products. They always use the Web App to search the Amazon database according to various criteria. The Web App can save time, and the most commonly used functions by sellers are (product database and product tracker).

In addition, when looking for the best products selling on Amazon, don’t forget the Chrome extension because it allows you to get the data and information you need about a specific product, and it can also help you find the most competitive products on the market. The good thing about the Chrome extension is that it is a one-time payment and can be used forever. If you need it in the future, you can still use it without paying extra.

Which plan should I choose when using Jungle Scouts: Startup, Standard, or Business?

All of these plans are different. It’s actually enough to use Jungle Scout’s Pro chrome extension combined with the Standard plan of the Web App. It allows product research to be done in seconds. Although it’s not a one-stop tool, you can get more accurate data when you use multiple tools.

Alternative tools to Jungle Scout

The Unicorn Smasher plugin is very similar to the Jungle Scout plugin, but almost every time you view the results page with Unicorn Smasher, you will see that the ranking, predicted sales, and revenue rows have no data.

You get what you pay for. While the free Unicorn Smasher data is less accurate compared to Jungle Scout, it’s still a great alternative tool that gives you a rough idea of your product, including how many reviews it has, the average review rating, and whether the product is shipped through FBA or FBM.

Summarize

Jungle Scout is a powerful tool that makes it easier to do product research on Amazon. But whether you use Jungle Scout or not, proper product research is an important part of being successful on Amazon. (Text/AMZ Fang Xiaoling)
