Shenzhen sellers' average monthly spending exceeds 10,000 yuan? A survey on cross-border people's consumption level

It is observed that recently, a post titled " What is the monthly living expenses of 4,000 in Shenzhen? How much do you spend per month ?" on a cross-border forum has triggered heated discussions among sellers. Some sellers said that a monthly consumption of 4,000 in Shenzhen is too frugal and cannot meet their living needs, but many people also hope to follow the poster's example and save money with the most cost-effective lifestyle .

Many sellers who are used to keeping accounts have posted their monthly bills. Upon comparison, it is found that due to different consumption habits, even if they are in the same industry in the same city and even have similar salary levels, the monthly expenditure levels of sellers vary greatly .

Shenzhen's consumption is far ahead of others, with rent and mortgages accounting for the majority of expenditure

As a leading city in cross-border e-commerce, Shenzhen has good salaries, but its high consumption is also daunting, especially in terms of rent.

As of July 2022, the average price of new houses in Shenzhen has reached 52,464 yuan/m² , while in Longhua District and Longgang District, where cross-border e-commerce companies are most concentrated, the price of new houses exceeds 60,000 yuan per square meter . With such expensive housing prices, the local rent level is naturally not low.

One seller said that his monthly expenses were nearly 11,000 yuan, of which 9,000 yuan was related to the house . After deducting 4,000 yuan in rent and 5,000 yuan in mortgage, there was little left for food and entertainment.

What's worse is that some people still have to bear a mortgage of 8,000 yuan despite a monthly expenditure of 10,000 yuan . It makes people wonder whether they should envy his income or pity his pressure.

But not all sellers in Shenzhen spend so much. If there is no pressure from mortgage loans, most sellers' monthly expenses are between 5,000 and 7,000 . Some cost-conscious sellers have successfully controlled their monthly expenses to around 4,000.

Although the monthly bill amounts of sellers vary greatly, a careful observation reveals that in terms of diet , there is almost no difference between sellers with a monthly expenditure of 4,000 and 10,000. " 6 yuan rice rolls for breakfast and 15-20 yuan fast food for lunch and dinner " has become the standard menu for workers in Shenzhen.

Under the combined impact of tremendous survival pressure and work pressure, many sellers in first-tier cities have considered leaving. Since the rent in Shenzhen is on par with the monthly mortgage payments in third-tier cities, why not choose to live in a place with less pressure?

It is difficult to go from luxury to frugality. Can you still adapt if you leave the first-tier cities?

Since the second half of 2021, there have been a series of cases of cross-border e-commerce relocation in China . In order to save costs, many cross-border companies in coastal areas have moved away from their local areas and moved to inland cities where competition is less intense and the market is not yet saturated. Nowadays, cross-border sellers no longer have a single choice. Even if they stay in their hometowns, they can still find corresponding jobs, and local consumption is significantly lower.

A seller in Xi'an said that his monthly expenses totaled only 2,300 yuan , including 1,000 yuan in rent, and he could occasionally go out to eat with friends.

But leaving is not without troubles. Working in high-salary cities for a long time has made many sellers develop high-quality and high-consumption lifestyles. The cultural and entertainment facilities in ordinary cities are far from meeting their requirements, not to mention that the local wage level does not allow for casual squandering.

There are also some sellers who work outside their hometowns and buy houses in their hometowns. Leaving their current high-income jobs means they may face the risk of a broken capital chain , which may lead to the inability to repay the mortgage in time. Some sellers are more straightforward: "If I don't go through this myself, my children will have to go through this!"

It is believed that if you are just a grassroots employee in the cross-border e-commerce industry, you should face up to your own earning ability and consumption level, consume rationally, reduce advance consumption and excessive spending , accumulate more wealth based on the advantages of first-tier cities, and make plans for a longer-term life.
