I believe everyone has heard about the news that Amazon’s commission has increased these days. Recently, a large number of sellers have reported that the categories of their products were suddenly modified by Amazon, and even products of different categories in a store were classified into a new category. The commission of the new category was much higher in comparison. The email the seller received is roughly as follows:
Starting November 4, 2024, some of your ASINs will be assigned to different fee categories. The fee category describes the product type of an ASIN and may be different from the category in which the ASIN appears in the Amazon store. Examples of fee categories include Apparel & Accessories, Grocery & Gourmet Food, and Toys & Games. Each ASIN in the Amazon catalog can belong to only one fee category. We regularly review ASINs to ensure they are assigned to the correct fee category, as shown in our fee category guidelines. This report will list only one SKU for each ASIN, even if there are multiple SKUs. If you have multiple SKUs for the same ASIN, these category changes will apply to all SKUs. Fee types that may be calculated using fee categories include, but are not limited to, referral fees and closing fees. If the category was incorrect, then it would be understandable. However, according to the seller who provided the email image, all of its ASINs are industrial products and have nothing to do with furniture decoration, so the commission has increased significantly. At the same time, other sellers whose categories were changed also reported that Amazon was messing around. From the specific modified stores and categories: Books sold have also been adjusted to the home and kitchen category... Some companies selling industrial products were changed to office supplies, and the commission increased by 3%... Even more exaggerated is that for those who sell auto parts, their sales were changed to household and kitchen supplies, and their commission increased by 20% (the annual cost is expected to increase by about US$5,000 ) . In response to feedback from a large number of sellers, Amazon’s official response was: “Amazon regularly reviews the categories and fee standards of sellers’ ASINs. If you believe that the fee category is incorrect, you can raise an objection to the seller support department, and a dedicated team will then help the seller resolve the issue.” Obviously, this statement cannot calm the anger of sellers. Sellers are more worried about whether the link can still obtain accurate traffic distribution of the category from now on, and whether it will become a "dead" link. At present, many categories that were inexplicably adjusted have not yet been restored. Some sellers have tried to provide feedback, but have not yet received a solution. Some industry insiders speculate that this situation probably occurred because the platform was testing a new function, which caused the bug to accidentally hurt the seller. If the sales of sellers have been affected, they need to open a case to Amazon as soon as possible to report it, because there is no better solution now , and they can only wait for automatic recovery. |
