The company's commission system changes every year, and I am increasingly eager to quit. Is there anyone looking for an operations job who can tell me what the market is like outside right now?

My C position

I joined my current company 22 years ago. At that time, the commission system was 4-8 points. If you achieved a certain performance, you could get the corresponding commission points. As long as you achieved performance, you could get the full commission. There was no assessment system.

A new commission system started in 2023: 3-5 points for new products in the old product line, a tiered commission system; 2 points for old products in the old product line, and 3 points for the part exceeding 500,000.

The new product line has 4-6 points, with a tiered commission (the company mainly makes money from the old product line, and the new product line is still in a loss-making state so far). The profit margin and FBA inventory turnover rate are assessed, and there is a performance assessment. The maximum commission is 50%, and the maximum commission for exceeding the target is 130% (many colleagues can only get 50% commission).

A new commission system started this month. The points remain unchanged, but there are more things to be assessed: profit margin, target completion rate, FBA inventory turnover rate, local warehouse inventory and the proportion of FBA inventory over 180 days. FBA is also divided into peak and off-seasons, with 90 days of inventory turnover in the peak season and 60 days of inventory turnover in the off-season. The maximum commission deduction is 30%, and the maximum commission for excess completion is 110%, but it is quite difficult and I guess no one can achieve it.

At the end of last year, the link reached the time for the old product to be put on the shelves, and the commission income was directly cut by 3/4. Of course, the profit is also lower than before, but the main problem is that the reform of the commission system has caused a sharp decline in income. I have a hot product, but the pressure is not small. The boss is always watching, but I get very little, so I want to quit more and more recently. I don’t know the market outside, so I want to find out. If the market is good, I plan to run away after the peak season. It’s too tiring to do it, and the new system has come out and I can get even less.

The most terrifying thing about this business is that after you succeed, your interests will not be protected at all. You are just helping your boss because the commission system is not written in the contract and it all depends on the boss's words. Often after you have established your store, the boss will start to make a killing. Not only will the commission system be changed, but you will also find that the assessment is getting more and more abnormal. All indicators are included, and you are strictly required to make profits, sales, and turnover. Each assessment is linked to the commission. The indicators are unreasonable? The boss wants unreasonable indicators so that he can deduct money openly.

In this kind of environment, can you feel any sense of achievement in operation? Your income will never catch up with the growth of performance.

All crows are black. You will be ripped off if you change any company. I personally think that if you don't mind frequent job hopping, it's best to go to a company that is just in the rising stage. The indicators of companies at this stage are very generous, and the boss will pretend to be a grandson. If you do well, the income in the first two or three years is still good, but in the end there is a high probability that you will be harvested by the boss and change jobs. If you do this, you will definitely accumulate experience and funds in the end and go out on your own.

If you want to be safe, go to a slightly larger company and try to be a small supervisor. In a large company, each person has his or her own position, and your salary range has long been fixed, so it can't be too bad, but it can't be too high either.

I have been harvested and discarded. When the performance started to improve, the boss wanted to keep me. The monthly targets were gradually increased, and the increase would begin as long as 80% was achieved. Later, when the performance could not meet the desired target, the boss started to lay off me. He was asked to give up the successful account and start working on a new one.

@wendyzhang : Almost the same, they also asked me to create a new account for no apparent reason, under the pretext of: strong ability, opening up new accounts... Later on, for other reasons, I came back to create US

Since I joined the company in 2018, my commission has been cut several times. The performance and profits are higher than before. The boss is making money, but the employees' wages are getting lower and lower. Anyway, after the business is established, I don't want you to take the old commission.

Mo mo01 • Foshan • 2024-04-09 11:00

Correct answer, as long as the company tends to be stable, it is almost time to start paying commissions. From the boss's perspective, it is understandable. If you can just sit back and take the money without doing anything, he will definitely not be happy about it. From the operational perspective, it is just as the original poster said. So either go it alone or find a startup company.

Tears welled up in my eyes. I joined a company in September last year with a base salary of 10, and a 5-12 point commission. Most of the products I got were slow-selling products. Two new products were launched from last year to now, one failed and the other is currently making money but not much (the market capacity for the Canadian site is limited). From the time I took over, it was negative profit, and now it is profitable. On the first day of the new year, the base salary was reduced by 3K...........

This was the case with my previous company. I didn't ask about the commission clearly at the time. They only said that I would get a 2% commission if I made 10,000 US dollars in revenue. It was also a new store. After half a year, when I achieved this performance, they said that I would get a 2% commission only after deducting the 10,000 US dollars in revenue. In the end, I only got a few dozen dollars in commission. I would probably be laughed at if I told others about it. I guess no one calculates commission this way.

When I started working, my boss asked me if I knew how to use AliExpress. I knew the basics, and she also said that no matter how much I did on AliExpress, I would get a commission. Since she said that, I didn't ask for details (I didn't know that Amazon calculated commissions in this way at the time, so no matter how much I said, I would have trusted others too much and was too naive). The company also registered AliExpress after I started working. I was responsible for all matters such as product uploading, shipping fee setting, and delivery in the early stage. Because the products were special, the boss only understood the questions asked by customers, so she basically answered them. As a result, when it came to settlement, she said that I didn't do anything and she was responsible for customer service. She set a standard of 5,000 US dollars in my account before I could get a commission. You should at least fulfill your previous words and set performance standards for me. You simply didn't give me any commission for the previous performance. It's really too much.

Before joining, I asked if the company had any other benefits. She said there would be a year-end bonus. I joined in June last year. Then at the annual meeting, she said there would be a bonus, part before the New Year and part after the New Year (my artist and I heard it very carefully and were looking forward to when the year-end bonus would be issued). In the end, I didn’t get a penny. When I asked the finance department, they said that I would get the year-end bonus only after a full year. During the Chinese New Year, they gave me a 100 yuan opening bonus, not a penny more. They had to go back to their hometown and took half a month of annual leave. In the end, they only gave me 3 days of pay. Wow~~, really, there are so many pitfalls in a small company run by a husband and wife team.

Big companies just rush forward with their products and make steady profits.
Small companies just rush forward with their bosses' money to make quick money.
I just use my own money to rush forward and make risky money.

What is important is the resources in your hands (your practical experience + money in your pocket + character and courage + luck + vision), the company's resources (resources in all links including the front leg, back leg, overseas warehouses, accounts, art and copywriting, off-site, etc.) and market matching. First, carefully weigh your abilities in all aspects and then choose the path that suits you best.

The most suitable path at the moment is not something you can decide on a whim!

It has always been like this, the donkey is discarded after it has done its job.

If you have enough capital (hot products, operational experience, and resources in various links), you can consider going it alone. However, the success rate of going it alone has been very low in the past two years (refer to the success rate of new products of each company, which is very low, almost unsuccessful).

You can consider setting up an account and doing a side job first, and then stay in the company. This way you have hope and bread. Only when you are in a good state can you seize opportunities.

Amazon will be a very difficult platform to operate in the future, and there will be no challenger to share the market with it. It is better to establish a foothold on the Amazon platform as soon as possible, otherwise you will have to find another way out.

Our old operators also resigned in various ways, and made all kinds of promises to the new operators. But when it came to the year-end dividends, they were all laughing, and now the European site can't even guarantee 25% of the returns. I joined in May last year and built up the links. The annual sales in 2023 increased by 85% year-on-year (I made the bulk of it in the second half of the year, and it was half-dead before that). At the end of the year, I will get 13 salaries, and the dividend target for 2023 is 3 million, and in 2024, I will directly reach 10 million. Are you kidding me? The target and the return rate are limited. I want to leave too

In fact, the end of e-commerce is to work alone

1. After you build up the account, your boss will change your commission system or replace a new person to take over your account. Otherwise, it will be impossible to give the greatest benefits to the employees. You must have this step in mind.

2. When your work becomes stable, you should find a side job. Because when your sales volume has not increased or has been increasing, your boss will adjust the commission system. On the contrary, a side job can solve this problem for you. This is the problem I have faced in recent years. I regret that I did not find my own side job at the time. I also felt that the company would not let down the old employees. I was wrong.

The commission system has been changed three times in the one year since I joined the company. The first time, they said there was no threshold and that you could get commissions if you made a profit. After you made a profit, they said you had to reach a certain performance level to get the commissions. Not only did they reduce the commission rate, but they also wanted me to get the commissions at the end of the year. I refused and insisted on getting them once a month. After getting the commissions for a few months, at the end of last year, they changed it to once every three months. And it was not that you could get the commissions if you exceeded the performance in a certain month, but that you had to exceed the performance in three months to get the commissions. It was boring. I no longer expected to get the commissions, so I just stayed at the company, working two hours a day and doing other things the rest of the time, and I felt justified in asking for a salary.

The market is not very good now, but your situation seems quite unreasonable. If you think you have no problem with your ability and you are not a girl, or if you are a girl but not at the age limit, then start looking for someone new.

Xiaoxiaosusu • Shenzhen • 2024-04-07 17:38

It hurts my heart, my friend. I want to change now, but I am stuck on age. Our company has also messed up the commission system. The main thing is that we are not allowed to increase the salary, and we have also changed the big and small week system.

@只想做个小富婆啊: This line of work is not necessarily good for boys, haha. I went to a company where the operations manager didn’t want to hire boys, but I was hired by the HR department by mistake, and then I found out that I was the only boy in the team. Later, I went to interview at another company and found that it was all girls. Then I knew in the HR interview that they didn’t want to hire boys at all, because they were afraid that boys would work alone. Then the operations manager was perfunctory when interviewing me. I don’t know why they asked me to interview. Maybe the HR department was brushing KPIs.
