Walmart launches new delivery service! Delivery to other retailers in the United States!

According to foreign media reports, Walmart recently announced the launch of a delivery service called GoLocal, which will support local retailers in the United States to deliver goods to consumers. The service is expected to be implemented at the end of 2021, and the delivery fleet will apply new technologies, including self-driving cars and drones.

Tom Ward, vice president of Walmart, said that Walmart has been committed to promoting the connection between customers and local retailers. The GoLocal delivery service will deliver goods to customers within two hours. In addition, customers can also choose to have the goods delivered within 2 days. The delivery staff will be a combination of employees, temporary workers or other delivery companies.

It is learned that over the past five years, Walmart has been improving its cargo transportation capabilities: in August 2016, Walmart acquired the e-commerce startup Jet.com for US$3.3 billion; in March 2018, Walmart launched a grocery delivery service to deliver orders from Walmart physical stores; in February 2020, Walmart launched the Walmart online delivery service to compete with e-commerce companies such as Amazon and Shopify.

David Vernon, senior transportation analyst at Bernstein, said that local delivery services provided by retail companies such as Walmart are unlikely to have a negative impact on international express delivery companies FedEx and UPS. There have been 230,000 delivery companies competing in the delivery market in the United States, but they are still no match for FedEx and UPS.

It is learned that Walmart has signed contracts with some US retail customers for GoLocal's delivery service, and will begin accepting applications from other retail companies on August 24.
