Counterfeit products are rampant! Multiple federal agencies in the United States are stepping up supervision!

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, recently, several federal agencies in the United States are exploring regulatory and management methods to suppress and reduce counterfeit goods sold online.

In recent years, sellers have been selling counterfeit versions of high-end designer products, including wallets, perfumes and watches. Consumers frequently buy counterfeit goods on the Internet. In addition, counterfeit goods cover a wide range of categories across online retail sites.

The U.S. government said that counterfeit products deceive consumers and pose a number of risks of damage to individual consumers and the collective economic system. For example, in 2017, Nike withdrew its products from Amazon because Amazon had third-party suppliers who sold counterfeit Nike products to consumers.

In addition, counterfeit goods can put consumers’ health and safety at risk. For example, counterfeit items may contain medicines with the wrong dosage or incorrect ingredients. Counterfeit goods also pose a risk to the success and innovation of honest businesses, which will make consumers doubt the authenticity of the brand.

It is learned that in 2020, the executive order issued by the Trump Administration severely suppressed the e-commerce counterfeit market. At the same time, the "Shop Safe Act" proposed by U.S. Congressman Jerry Nadler in 2020 further suppressed third-party e-commerce platforms that sold counterfeit products.

It is reported that currently, multiple federal agencies in the United States are stepping up efforts to regulate counterfeit products and formulate and enforce e-commerce counterfeit goods regulations, including the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Office of Intellectual Property Rights, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center.
