It is learned that according to foreign media reports, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Wednesday that California will become the first state to ban large retailers from laying off warehouse workers.
The measure, which applies to all warehouses and distribution centers, also prohibits Amazon and other online retail giants from disciplining workers for complying with health and safety laws and allows employees to sue to stop unfair time quotas or retaliation.
It is reported that Amazon was sued in a class action lawsuit for occupying employees' rest and meal time. Later, employees reported that the frequency of going to the toilet was limited, which caused dissatisfaction among employees.
Amazon did not respond to the allegations or comment on the legislation, which gives large warehouse employers 30 days to disclose quotas to employees.
Workers who believe their quotas are leading to unsafe practices can request 90 days of documentation showing whether they are working at the quota rate. Any discipline within those 90 days is presumed to be retaliation, just as any discipline within 90 days of an employee complaining to the company or a state agency about unsafe quotas.
Despite this, the introduction of this bill will still have a significant impact on Amazon FBA. With the peak shopping season approaching, Amazon is facing increasing pressure on warehousing and logistics, and the reduction in FBA efficiency will have a further impact on sellers in the future.
