Insights into US consumer shopping trends in 2021: Half of the budget is spent on Amazon!

It is learned that according to a survey of more than 1,000 American consumers by consulting firm Brooks Bell, Amazon remained the most popular shopping website in the United States in 2021.

According to Brooks Bell, the following are the important shopping trends for American consumers on Amazon in 2021:

  • 74% of respondents visit Amazon every day or week with the intent to buy, while 68% say they visit just to browse products.

  • Thirteen percent of respondents said they spend more than half of their monthly household budget on non-gasoline, grocery items, and household purchases on Amazon.

  • 43% of respondents said they had a favorable impression of stores such as AmazonGo and Amazon Fresh, while only 29% said they liked it. In contrast, Amazon's website received strong support, with 79% of respondents saying they liked shopping on the website. In addition, 43% of respondents said that Amazon's Alexa device was great to use.

  • 30% of the respondents said that every month there are delays in delivery or receipt of inferior products, 44% of the respondents said that every month there are out-of-stock items in the shopping cart. 36% of the respondents said that they cannot quickly find the products they like because there are too many choices.

  • Compared with the younger generation, 73% of consumers aged 60 and above said that the shopping experience on Amazon was very good, while only 63% of the younger generation (under 29 years old) held the same view.

  • 29% of respondents refer to product reviews and blogs before purchasing on Amazon, and 20% of respondents check product reviews on YouTube.

  • In addition, 36% of respondents said they would purchase products on shopping platforms other than Amazon because they "do not trust the authenticity of the brand or products," which is also an important factor leading to Amazon customer loss.
