The global e-commerce market has developed rapidly under the COVID-19 pandemic, and logistics has become a new "battlefield" for major e-commerce giants. The speed of logistics can even be said to be the key to the success or failure of e-commerce. Following Amazon’s announcement of “Buy With Prime” for independent site sellers, Shopify also recently launched the “Shop Promise” feature to provide buyers with an estimated delivery time. Both are new initiatives by the two giants in the field of logistics. Another major logistics move by Shopify recently is its plan to acquire Deliverr, a startup that connects sellers and sales channels, for $2.1 billion. Research shows that global consumers have a growing demand for online shopping and are increasingly demanding shipping speeds. “When will my package arrive?” is one of the most searched keywords on Google, and the failure to provide an estimated delivery time is also the main reason why consumers abandon their purchases. Shopify's Shop Promise will provide buyers with merchants' expected delivery dates through channels such as Google, Facebook and Instagram. In addition, Shopify already provides the ability to track packages through its Shop app. Currently, Shop Promise is only available to US merchants. However, Shopify CFO Amy Shapero confirmed in a subsequent conversation with analysts that the feature wouldn't be fully operational until the end of 2023 at the earliest. Amazon's Buy With Prime, announced at the end of April, aims to provide independent sellers with its logistics services, including fast and free delivery and free returns. A large number of sellers on its platform also have layouts on Shopify. It is not difficult to see that the two are in a head-to-head battle for the third-party seller market. Shopify declined to comment on Buy With Prime, saying the company still needs to collect more information before making a definitive comment. In the payment field, Amazon and Shopify are also competing secretly. Currently, Shopify does not allow merchants to access other payment methods like Amazon.
