Amazon Fall Prime Day Consumer Survey! The opportunity for explosive sales is just around the corner

Amazon Fall Prime Day Consumer Survey! The opportunity for explosive sales is just around the corner

It is learned that recently, Numerator released a consumer behavior report on Amazon's Fall Prime Day. The report shows that the Fall Prime Day may set new records in household penetration and average household spending.

According to the report, more than 30% of Americans will shop during this Prime Sale. On Prime Day in July 2022, 29.9% of Americans will shop, compared to 27.4% in 2021 and 27% in 2020.

Due to the potential for early holiday spending and price increases due to inflation, it’s possible that the average household spend could exceed $200 during the Prime Early Access Sale.

During Prime Day in July 2022, household spending grew to $197.92, up from $156.69 during Prime Day 2021. Household spending was higher during Prime Day in October 2020, at $158.55, likely a result of it being held ahead of the holiday season.

Grocery items will account for a larger share of those dollars than previous Amazon sales, Numerator found.

Amazon's Prime Day sales have historically been known for sales on consumer electronics, but on July 2022's Prime Day, 17% of shoppers purchased groceries, with household and grocery items ranking among the popular items purchased for the first time.

Numerator said the fall Prime Day is expected to drive more sales of consumer goods, and consumers may use the Prime event to stock up on Halloween candy, Thanksgiving non-perishable items and holiday baking ingredients if there are discounts.

Additionally, the study found that October shopping events are unlikely to cannibalize Amazon's holiday sales, with a majority of consumers saying they plan to buy more from Amazon closer to the holidays.

Numerator noted that retailers paid more attention to the first Prime Early Access Sale. On Prime Day in July, Walmart's total store sales fell 3 points; Kroger's sales fell 1.5 points; Costco's sales fell 1 point; Target increased 0.5 percentage points.
