Usage volume crushes YouTube and approaches Netflix! American adults are crazy about TikTok!

It is learned that a report released by market research firm Insider Intelligence on the 2nd pointed out that if the time spent by American adults on these platforms is considered, the Chinese social media application TikTok has approached the streaming media giant Netflix.

The report pointed out that TikTok's usage surpassed YouTube, the video-sharing site owned by Google's parent company Alphabet, two years ago and has grown at a faster rate, especially among adults in the United States, who are also the age group with the main source of income.

The report noted that "the time spent on the app by adult TikTok users in the United States is increasing rapidly, far ahead of YouTube users and narrowing the gap with Netflix."

According to Insider Intelligence, TikTok is particularly addictive for American adults aged 25 to 54.

Insider Intelligence estimates that the average U.S. adult user will spend nearly 56 minutes per day on TikTok this year, just 6 minutes less than the time spent watching Netflix.

The report also pointed out that TikTok is an important reason for the continued growth of total social network usage time since the COVID-19 outbreak.

TikTok users aged 18 to 24 spend as much time watching a feature-length comedy movie on the app each day, while the report notes that the amount of time millennials and Generation X are watching traditional television is declining.

The U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee voted on March 1 to pass a proposal to further ban TikTok. But critics believe that the proposal threatens freedom of speech.

The bill, called Deterring America's Technological Adversaries (DATA), passed the Republican-controlled House Foreign Affairs Committee along party lines, but is expected to face opposition from free speech defenders and Democrats when it goes to the full House and Senate.

TikTok, owned by China's ByteDance, is under scrutiny in several countries over privacy and surveillance issues.
