It is learned that on November 1, Walmart announced that it will hold two Black Friday promotions and one Cyber 1 promotion during this holiday season, and these activities will be concentrated in November. At the same time, Walmart has made frequent moves in platform functions, supply chain logistics, and advertising and marketing to prepare for this year's holiday season competition.
Walmart holds two Black Friday promotions for the first time to meet the peak season
Walmart's first Black Friday sale will reportedly start on its e-commerce platform at 3 p.m. EST on Wednesday, November 8, and will be held in physical stores on Friday, November 10. Walmart+ members will have early access a few hours before the event starts on November 8.
The second Black Friday sale will kick off on the e-commerce platform at 3 p.m. ET on Wednesday, November 22, and continue in stores on Friday, November 24. Again, Walmart+ members will have early access before the event begins on November 22.
Walmart will hold a Cyber 1 promotion through its e-commerce platform on Monday, November 27, and Walmart+ members will be able to enjoy Cyber 1 discounts in advance for the first time.
In order to attract more customers to join Walmart+ during the promotion period, Walmart also announced that starting from November 8, buyers can get a one-year membership for US$49 per year, which is 50% lower than the normal annual fee.
In fact, as early as October, Walmart held the "Walmart Specials - Holiday Kickoff" event to predict the holiday peak season and provide some holiday shopping features.
To boost sales, Walmart will also launch two new shopping features on its platform, including a holiday "wishlist" and "registration form." Buyers can add their favorite items to the "wishlist" and create a "saved" list of items, which can be added to the shopping cart with one click and can be shared with friends and family. Walmart has also introduced a toy registry, allowing buyers to create their own toy wishlist directly from the popular toy list on Walmart's official website.
Walmart increases investment in logistics and marketing to go all out during peak season
In order to stand out in the peak season competition, Walmart has also made sufficient preparations in logistics and marketing.
On October 31, Walmart announced the opening of its third "high-tech" distribution center in Lancaster, Texas, in preparation for the peak season orders. The center covers an area of 1.5 million square feet and uses an automated, high-density storage and retrieval system. It is the latest facility in Walmart's "high-tech" distribution center plan.
In this year's Black Friday advertising video, Walmart invited the original crew of the classic American TV series "Mean Girls" to shoot and reproduce the key scenes of the 2004 teen comedy. The background music of the video is also the theme song of the TV series "Pass That Dutch", which conforms to the current wave of nostalgia in the United States.
Walmart plans to distribute the two-minute video across its social platforms, including YouTube and Instagram, and will release it every Wednesday in November and on Cyber Monday (Nov. 27).
