Temu sues 20 fake websites in the US

It is learned that according to the South China Morning Post, on October 30, Temu filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, accusing more than 20 websites of allegedly registering its domain name and providing coupon codes without authorization.

According to the complaint filed by Temu, it is targeting websites that imitate Temu's domain names, such as "temuapp.biz" and "temucouponcodes.com," which it says are engaged in "trademark infringement, unfair competition and false designations of origin."

Temu is also seeking damages, in the amount of $100,000 for each use of a counterfeit Temu trademark, and a temporary injunction against the websites accused of infringement during the litigation.

The Temu spokesperson also said that fraudsters were deceiving consumers through fake applications and websites impersonating Temu, which not only damaged Temu's reputation but also harmed the interests of consumers.

The lawsuit comes as Temu's e-commerce business is growing rapidly. Since entering the U.S. e-commerce market last September, Temu has expanded into Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

For Temu, the United States is an important market. Before Black Friday, Temu's move is aimed at cracking down on counterfeit goods websites and eliminating unfair competition.

According to a report from Data.ai last week, Temu was the most downloaded app in the first three quarters of 2023, surpassing giants such as Amazon. The latest data shows that the US market contributed 60% of Temu's sales, reaching $5 billion in the third quarter.
