Walmart releases Black Friday online battle report, small and medium-sized sellers account for 40% of orders

It is learned that recently, Walmart said in a statement on its website that this year's Black Friday (November 24) and Cyber Monday (November 27) were the two best-performing promotions in history.

Walmart also revealed that during the event, sales on Walmart's third-party marketplace hit new highs, with thousands of sellers setting all-time sales records.

On Black Friday, Walmart Marketplace’s order peak per minute increased four times from the previous peak. On the same day, Walmart Fulfillment Service (WFS) shipped nearly twice as many orders as the same period last year.

It is worth mentioning that the number of packages handled by WFS repeatedly (four times) broke new records during the events from November 8 to 14 and November 22 to 27. WFS is a fee-based program for third-party sellers that provides storage, picking, packaging, shipping, as well as return and customer service services.

In addition, during the event, thousands of sellers completed their first transactions on Walmart. About 40% of orders on the Walmart platform came from small and medium-sized sellers, and a large number of sellers used the tools and services provided by Walmart to boost sales.

Manish Joneja, senior vice president of Walmart U.S. marketplace and Walmart fulfillment services, said Walmart's third-party sellers achieved milestone revenue growth during this holiday season.

Walmart has been offering incentives to third-party sellers. For example, in January 2023, the retail giant launched a limited-time program called "New Seller Offers," which provides a variety of free tools and services to new sellers in the United States and offers a three-month commission rate reduction of up to 25%.

In June this year, Walmart announced a partnership with e-commerce financing expert Onramp to provide independent sellers and small retailers on the Walmart market with faster and more flexible loan solutions to help them increase sales and profits.

Walmart has also recently launched several new online delivery and marketing features to attract new sellers to join the Walmart marketplace and retain existing sellers, including local pickup and delivery services for sellers with physical stores, WFS large-volume shipping services, and new brand stores, brand shelves and virtual garage features on the Walmart website.
