Mercari becomes first zero-commission resale platform in the U.S.

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, Japan's largest second-hand trading platform Mercari announced that it will cancel the platform commission from March 27 to attract more sellers to the platform. While other platforms increase seller fees, Mercari goes the other way and becomes the first and currently the only second-hand resale platform in the United States to offer sellers zero sales fees .

It is understood that Mercari previously charged a fixed 10% commission for each transaction, but now this fee has been completely cancelled. At the same time, Mercari has also implemented a new return policy, which will charge buyers a portion of the service fee. After that, Mercari buyers can initiate a return and get a refund for any reason within three days. This new policy will apply to all products on the platform, even certified luxury goods.

Mercari's U.S. CEO John Lagerling said that through the new model of zero sales fees, Mercari sellers can price more reasonably and ensure profits, and Mercari will be able to take a leading position in the second-hand resale market.

It is reported that Mercari has been downloaded more than 50 million times in the United States, with 400,000 new products added every day. This new fee structure is the first of its kind in the U.S. online resale market and will make Mercari a more competitive second-hand resale platform in the United States.
