Amazon is sanctioned by the US government! Sellers have new protection

Sellers often fail in disputes with Amazon, but this does not mean that the sellers’ claims are wrong. On the contrary, Amazon will delay compensation for some critical issues involving real money even if it is wrong, and will even directly refuse to compensate for large amounts.

This kind of unfairness to sellers is not uncommon, but sellers basically have no choice but to accept the consequences. After all, the rules of the entire platform are set by Amazon itself, and Amazon has the final say on how to interpret them.

Sellers have almost no way to resist this inequality and can only seek stronger government power to restrain and regulate Amazon’s strong power.

Although government agencies and politicians have not taken much action against Amazon before, starting this year, the giant has gradually begun to feel the pressure from the government.

The news released by foreign media yesterday gave sellers hope for the implementation of the regulatory system.

A tougher antitrust investigation into Amazon

In the report, foreign media whistleblowers said that the US Federal Trade Commission and the US Department of Justice's antitrust enforcement agencies held a round of talks and reached a secret agreement. This move indicates that Amazon is about to face a more severe antitrust investigation.

American politicians have realized that Amazon is holding third-party sellers on its platform hostage in order to suppress its competitors (although third-party sellers are reluctant, they have to choose to side with Amazon).

So although this antitrust investigation is ostensibly aimed at Amazon’s unfair competition, for sellers this investigation will also directly hit Amazon’s monopoly position.

This will prevent Amazon from having absolute say and provide sellers with a relatively fairer arbitration channel, so the ones who will benefit from the antitrust investigation will definitely be the government and our third-party sellers.

In history, there are many giant companies that have been split up or even brought down by antitrust investigations. Last time, we reported that US Senator Warren, who wanted to split up Amazon, gave us a good example.

Around the 1980s, there was a giant company that monopolized the entire U.S. telecommunications industry, AT&T. At that time, American consumers had to go through AT&T switches whenever they used telephones or related services.

Naturally, only the US government can break this monopoly. After an antitrust investigation, the government agency split and regulated AT&T's telecommunications business. This move has led to the current competition among many operators in the US telecommunications industry.

Although AT&T still maintains its leading position, its competitors are also catching up, which gives American consumers more favorable choices in telecommunications services.

Although Amazon will not be completely split up in the end, the government will establish an effective review mechanism so that sellers can directly complain to the government about Amazon’s various unreasonable behaviors/policies. The government can correct Amazon’s monopoly behavior and kill two birds with one stone.

With the relevant government regulatory mechanism in place, incidents like the large-scale store closures on May 25 can be reduced. Until now, Amazon has not given an accurate explanation for this incident.
