Can the additional tariffs be avoided this way? ! Official statement

A full month has passed since the United States officially restarted trade frictions on the 10th of last month. Until now, the two sides are still in a fierce confrontation, with no signs of improvement.

Even at the end of last month, China and the United States put each other's companies on the sanctions list, further intensifying the conflict. So according to the current situation, we cross-border sellers need to be prepared for a long-term battle.

As savvy Chinese sellers, it is obviously impossible for them to be stumped by tariffs. The normal way of thinking is to raise prices and let American consumers/businesses pay for the 25% tariff.

However, there are also sellers who take a different approach and use another method to circumvent the US punitive tariffs.

Chinese products avoid taxes via Vietnam

Foreign media reported that the Vietnamese government recently issued an announcement on its official website, claiming that after China and the United States resumed the trade dispute, more than a dozen cases of products from China being sent to the United States through illegal transshipment and falsification of origin have been discovered in Vietnam, in order to circumvent the US punitive tariffs on China.

Since you are imposing tariffs on Chinese products, why don't I just produce and ship from other countries? It can be said that this way of thinking is very direct, crude and effective, and many people use it.

How many products are exported to the United States via Vietnam? This is a hard number to tell, but we can get some information from Vietnam's overall export volume.

According to foreign media data, Vietnam was the country with the largest increase in exports to the United States last quarter, with a year-on-year increase of more than 40.2%.

The decline in China’s exports to the US was completely expected, as everyone would have to think twice before imposing a 25% tariff. However, the surge in Vietnam’s exports to the US was rather strange, although this was due to the transfer of the downstream industrial chain to Southeast Asia.

However, such a sharp increase in price in a short period of time must have resulted from a large number of Chinese goods disguised as Vietnamese products shipped to the United States.

Not only has Vietnam discovered dozens of such cases, but the United States has also uncovered multiple cases of Chinese products entering the United States through Vietnamese companies.

Although there are quite a lot of sellers who circumvent tariffs by going through other countries, to put it bluntly, this operation is against the rules and may even lead to serious consequences.

Is it possible to avoid taxes through other countries?

In fact, it is clear that "falsifying the country of origin" and "transshipping" are clear-cut trade frauds, and sellers may face severe penalties if caught.

In addition to the negative impact on sellers, a large number of sellers going through Vietnam have also dragged the country into a more dangerous situation.

Indian officials said that due to the existence of a large number of false labeling and illegal transshipment, they are very likely to be punished by the United States.

This concern is not groundless. Just last month, the United States added Vietnam to its watch list of "currency manipulators" and may bring charges against Vietnam. As soon as the news came out, the Vietnamese dong exchange rate plummeted.

Therefore, this method of borrowing a passage should be used with caution.

However, in the list of additional tariffs that was restarted in May, our 2C sellers were less affected, because most of the products on the previous list were semi-finished products and products for enterprises. We cross-border sellers do not need to consider the issue of borrowing channels for the time being.

However, the list of additional $300 billion in tariffs that the United States threatens to impose includes a large number of 2C products, including clothing, glasses, tablecloths, etc. (You can scan the QR code at the end of the article to send me a private message to get the complete list)

The latest 300 billion list will be heard on the 17th of this month, and the meeting will discuss whether to implement this list. We will know the result in 5 days. Students who are anxious can scan the code to find me to get the complete list~

PS. If you want to join the seller discussion group, you can also private message me to let me add you to the group
