If you don’t understand these rules before selecting products, your account will be in danger!


At the beginning of the new year, many Amazon sellers should start preparing for the new year's product selection, or have completed product selection and are ready to put products on the shelves.


However, it should be noted that some products cannot be sold just because you want to. Each major Amazon site has its own restricted products. If you violate Amazon's restricted product policy, you may face the consequences of removal of sales privileges, destruction of inventory, or freezing of sales proceeds.





Updates to Amazon’s restricted products rules






Amazon Global Selling recently updated the restricted product rules for four sites in the United States, Japan, Europe and Australia.


Among them, in the United States, there are very strict standards for being recognized as degradable plastic products:




1. Household plastic products must comply with the following standards: ASTM D6400/ASTM D6868/ASTM D7081


2. Sellers need to obtain a certificate issued by any of the following third-party organizations before the product can be recognized as a degradable plastic product.




Global Store Opening also pointed out that if you claim that your plastic products are biodegradable as a selling point in your product listing, and you do not obtain certification, then such claims are likely to trigger a product review.


Do not blindly publish descriptions of such products without passing relevant biodegradable standards certification, for example:


biodegradable (biodegradable), degradable (degradable), decomposable (decomposable), breakdown (decomposable), compost (compost).


Never publish relevant keywords in the product details page at will , so as to avoid false advertising that misleads consumers and thus constitutes a trade violation.






Amazon Restricted Products Policy






On Amazon’s help page, there are descriptions of “restricted products” and corresponding penalties.

Here’s what Amazon says about the penalties for violating Amazon’s restricted products policy:




If you sell products that violate the law or any of Amazon's policies (including products listed on the Selling Restricted Products page), we will take corrective action, as appropriate, including but not limited to immediate suspension or termination of selling privileges, destruction of inventory in Amazon fulfillment centers without compensation, return of inventory, termination of the business relationship, and permanent withholding of sales proceeds. Selling illegal or unsafe products may also result in legal action and involve civil and criminal penalties.




It can be seen that the consequences of violating Amazon's restricted products are very serious. In addition, Amazon has detailed descriptions of the "restricted products" in each category. Sellers who need to know more can click at the end of the article to read the original text.

However, some sellers sell such restricted products. If Amazon detects that your listing contains some sensitive words, you will be required to undergo a classification review before you can sell it when you put it on the shelf or after you have been selling it for a period of time.






Classification review requirements






So, what are the general and rigid requirements for classification review?




  • The account's sales plan must be Professional Seller

  • ODR (Order defect rate) order defect rate <1%

  • Pre-fulfillment cancel rate: <2.5%

  • Late shipment rate: <4%

  • 5 product images that meet Amazon's requirements.

  • During the audit, provide any invoices, receipts, inspection certificates, etc. that may be required as required by Amazon.




The above items are the basic hard requirements for different categories. In addition, different product categories also have specific requirements related to them.


Requirements for relevant materials for classification review:




  • 5 pictures. JPG format is recommended. The background must be pure white (255:255:255). The product must occupy more than 85% of the picture. The picture must not have borders, watermarks, etc. It cannot be electronically synthesized drawings. There cannot be other accessories unrelated to the product.

  • Receipts, packing lists, and invoices (professional VAT invoices or ordinary VAT invoices) must be valid documents within 90 days and must include the address and contact information of the supplier and purchaser.

  • Authorized and formal UPC code.

  • Relevant certificates. For example, CE certificate for electronics; FDA certificate for cosmetics and skin care products; and nickel content certificate for jewelry.

  • Corporate website. It must be a corporate website with a first-level domain name.

  • A $500 security deposit is required for Fine Jewelry and is non-refundable.

  • Send samples. Sellers selling jewelry in the Fine category need to send samples to Amazon’s review team for inspection.

  • Product batch table. Pictures, descriptions, titles, etc. need to comply with Amazon's requirements and require at least one variant product.




Of course, the information required for each category on each site may not be the same, and the information mentioned above is not absolute. The specific situation still depends on the requirements of each category of Amazon.
