According to foreign media reports, a message has been circulating rapidly on a well-known social media platform in the United States recently, saying that consumers in many parts of the United States have inexplicably received mysterious small packages from China, mostly containing seeds, herbs and other small items. At one time, more than 1,000 consumers from at least 12 states in the United States reported receiving similar packages. Since consumers reported that they had never ordered these "mysterious seeds", several departments led by the U.S. Department of Agriculture quickly intervened in the investigation, and at the same time warned consumers not to sow unknown seeds privately to avoid species invasion. According to consumers who received these "mysterious seeds", the contents written on the package waybills were things like earrings, accessories or jewelry . The packages mainly come from China and Uzbekistan, with the majority coming from China. Moreover, judging from the two packages shown in the report, both were China Post packages sent from Suzhou. The contents written on the packages were a bracelet and a ring, weighing 0.02kg and 0.01kg respectively, with a value of US$1.5 and US$0.945 respectively. However, the actual contents were both a packet of seeds, and the sender was the same person.
In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a press conference on Tuesday that the address labels were forged and that China Post had asked the U.S. Postal Service to send the packages to China for investigation. According to reports, some investigators believe that this is actually part of a "brushing scam," a method by which third-party sellers increase product sales by using Americans' addresses and Amazon information to make false sales and gain positive reviews. This is actually an international Internet scam. However, US officials said there is currently no clear evidence that this is a "brushing scam." For cross-border e-commerce sellers, fake orders have become one of the indispensable operating methods. In order to reduce the cost of fake orders, sellers usually use low-value goods instead of actual products, such as paper towels, bags and other small and practical items. Some sellers even directly send empty packages. However, seeds are actually sensitive products, which are very taboo for customs and agricultural departments. If the consequences are serious, they may damage the local ecological environment. Therefore, the US officials are bound to investigate this matter strictly. However, we are currently in a sensitive period of trade friction between China and the United States, and it is an unwise choice for cross-border e-commerce sellers to use seeds to brush orders. Now, this seed fraud incident has become the focus of public attention, and it is very likely that in the future, many state departments in the United States will more strictly inspect packages from China. Therefore, whether it is general trade or cross-border e-commerce exports, direct mail or dedicated line packages, the inspection intensity will be unprecedentedly increased, and the business of many cross-border e-commerce sellers and even logistics practitioners will be affected. In addition, not long ago, a large number of sellers reported that they received mass order-false warning emails from Amazon, and some sellers even had their accounts blocked. Cross-border e-commerce is already difficult this year. With this series of "false order incidents", it is still unknown what further actions Amazon will take in the future. I hope that sellers who have false order and evaluation needs will stay out of the spotlight for the time being, and be cautious in future false order evaluations, and understand Amazon's rules for sensitive products, safety evaluations, and false orders.
