The US "Biden" situation has been determined. Although Trump is still "making waves", there is a high probability that there will be no reversal. Sellers can prepare for Black Friday and Cyber Monday with peace of mind. At this time of explosive orders, Amazon has issued a number of new regulations.

New rules for European site listings are here

Recently, Amazon released an announcement stating that starting from November 16, 2020, a change will affect the listings of all consumer goods in Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, and Italy. The details are as follows:

If a seller’s products do not meet the new requirements for per-unit price, Amazon will remove the listings from search after a 90-day grace period if they still do not meet the requirements.

The affected products are all products sold in the following categories: Mother and Baby, Food, Personal Care and Health, Beauty, Pets, Wine and Personal Care Products.

It is reported that these products need to have a [unit_count attribute], that is, they need to have a value ([unit_count], such as "5") and a unit type ([unit_count_type], such as "ounces", "quantity", "grams").

Sellers are required to fill in these fields during the listing process, and for existing products, sellers can submit or update unit_count values through the product listing template or by visiting the product listing quality dashboard.

Therefore, sellers of consumer goods, please take note and remember to update the unit_count value, otherwise the listing will be removed from the shelves.

UK product compliance update: CE certification will be invalid

In addition to the new listing rules, Amazon UK has recently made major updates to product compliance as the Brexit date is approaching.

Judging from the announcement, this time the main changes include UKCA certification replacing CE certification, and updates to regulations such as food and beverage labels and new energy labels.

Among them, the most relevant issue for the majority of sellers is the CE certification. According to the new regulations, starting from January 1, 2021, the UK will use a new compliance standard UKCA to replace the CE certification, and abolish the old CE mark after a one-year transition period (January 1, 22).

Prior to this, several sellers of toys, electrical appliances, and electronic accessories on the European site received requests from Amazon to upload product compliance documents within a specified period. The email clearly stated that if the documents were not uploaded in a timely manner, the relevant products would be removed from the shelves.

This compliance issue is more related to European sellers because the UK will adopt a new compliance standard UKCA, but the EU still recognizes the CE certification.

This means that sellers who sell products in both the UK and other European markets must use both CE and UKCA certifications, and both must be affixed to their products. Although there is a one-year transition period for CE certification (2021-January 1, 2022), sellers still need to prepare in advance and add UKCA certification in a timely manner.

In addition to the replacement of CE certification, there are also new updates to related energy certifications and REACH certifications, which are not listed here one by one. Sellers of new energy and food can go to the backend to check and update new related certifications in a timely manner.

Freight forwarder urgent reminder: Do not use yellow tape

In the past two days, many freight forwarders have issued urgent notices on WeChat Moments: Please do not use yellow tape when sealing shipping boxes to avoid unnecessary delays!

It is reported that recently, when the customs inspected e-commerce goods, they found many cases of goods sealed with yellow tape. After opening the boxes, sensitive goods and prohibited items were found. Now the customs requires that all goods sealed with yellow tape should be subject to spot checks and even sent to the disposal department for processing. In order to speed up the customs clearance time, it is now recommended that sellers must use transparent tape when packing goods to avoid unnecessary spot checks and delays in shipment.

The editor has verified with several freight forwarders and learned that the news is true . In recent years, yellow tape has become the best choice for many criminals to wrap smuggled items, prohibited items and sensitive goods due to its opacity. Therefore, it is best for sellers not to use yellow tape when shipping.

Shipping costs soared, exchange rate fell to 6.5, sellers suffered heavy losses

In recent times, due to the impact of the epidemic, there have been many problems with logistics and exchange rates.

The day before yesterday, a porter at the Shanghai Pudong Airport Cargo Terminal was diagnosed with the virus, resulting in the closure of the cargo terminal and the suspension of all air shipments at Shanghai Pudong Airport.

In foreign countries, due to the epidemic and riots in Europe and the United States, Amazon warehouses were seriously overwhelmed, major ports were seriously congested, and goods shipped there were frequently rejected. The freight rates of sea, air, and the four major express delivery companies soared, and various surcharges followed.

On November 8, UPS raised its peak season surcharges , as shown in the figure below:

It is reported that the price of UPS shipments to the United States was previously 16.2 yuan/kg, but it increased to 23.4 yuan/kg from November 8. The price of UPS shipments to Europe increased from 10.8 yuan/kg to 16.2 yuan/kg.

Previously, Guangdong Province e-Post’s rates for US-bound packages have also begun to rise , and sellers’ costs will increase again.

During this year-end peak season, not only are there no orders, but costs are also rising rapidly. Some sellers are almost going crazy.

In addition to the high shipping costs, the US dollar exchange rate has fallen sharply recently, reaching as low as 6.55 . Compared with 7.1 last month, this is equivalent to withdrawing 10,000 US dollars, which is directly 5,000 yuan less . This is another huge loss for cross-border sellers.

On one hand, freight rates have increased and exchange rates have plummeted, and on the other hand, my brother-in-law has introduced all kinds of new rules to cause trouble. This year's peak season is indeed not very friendly to sellers. It all depends on the next wave of online shopping on May 5 and Online 1. Sellers, hold on!
