On January 13, Pacific Time, the Los Angeles Times reported that 2020 was a bad year for most people, but for body bag manufacturers, it was the best year for profits.

Salam International has seen a surge in orders since the outbreak, with warehouses in Orange County and New Jersey being emptied time and time again, and body bags in short supply. The company's owner, Abdul Salam, said the company was founded in 1992 and has been dealing in death-related products. He produced a 337-page product catalog, covering almost all products in this field, from dissection tables to corpse elevators, from corpse refrigerators to corpse preservatives. He said that the hottest selling item at the moment is: body bags .

Salam said they offer 16 colors of body bags, including black, light blue and emerald green. Before the epidemic, customers had a choice of colors, but now his customers will snap up all colors, and some customers buy tens of thousands at a time. His customers include universities, state governments, local governments at all levels, the military and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Previously, California Governor Gavin Newsom also ordered the purchase of 5,000 body bags.

Salam, whose business is booming, is not actually happy. He said the epidemic is good for his business, but not good for the community at all. Although 67-year-old Salam runs a business of funeral and death-related products, his language when describing the deceased is very gentle and full of regret. He said: "The income has broken records, but the emotional loss is a lot. At the end of the day, you are a human being and you have emotions."

In the past 30 years, many major disasters in the United States, such as earthquakes, fires, and hurricanes, have used Salam's products. Salam said that four days after the 9/11 incident, he sent small body bags to the World Trade Center overnight because ordinary body bags were too large for the scattered remains. In 2014, when the Ebola virus threatened Gotham City, Salam ensured that the company had 100,000 body bags ready for deployment at any time.

Salam believes the outbreak will last until at least the third quarter of 2021, but he believes the industry will not be affected by either a recession or a boom.
