Public enemy of the United States? Amazon is boycotted! Sellers' orders are declining! Bezos publicly stated...

Recently, a series of "number scanning" operations by Amazon have caused Amazon sellers to "criticize and curse". After being rejected, some sellers said that Amazon's method of screening sellers is too radical and will hurt the hearts of most Chinese sellers . For sellers who have not been affected, the order volume has also dropped rapidly in recent days.

In fact, Amazon is also under attack from all sides in the United States. Not only has it been named by members of Congress, but Small Business Rising has also called for its breakup .

Small business industry group calls for increased antitrust enforcement

Breaking up Amazon

On April 7, Small Business Rising, an industry group for small businesses, released a report on Tuesday aimed at increasing antitrust enforcement efforts, including a call to split up Amazon's retail and marketplace businesses. This move by Small Business Rising will increase the pressure on Amazon.

Amazon's business has grown significantly during the epidemic as consumers have flocked to online shopping. Stacy Mitchell, a member of Small Business Rising, said, " Small businesses are in crisis . As a book distributor, the root cause of poor performance is Amazon ." She said that the economic turmoil caused by the epidemic and the existence of giants such as Amazon are the reasons why Small Business Rising calls for increased antitrust enforcement.

Small Business Rising also called for
revisions to antitrust laws to authorize antitrust regulators to step up efforts to crack down on monopolistic behavior and strictly evaluate mergers and acquisitions between industry giants.

Regulators around the world are closely watching Amazon's behavior in competing with third-party merchants on its platform. Critics say Amazon treats third-party merchants roughly and uses their data to improve its product design. An antitrust report released by the U.S. Congress last year pointed out that Amazon abused its dominant position when dealing with small merchants .

Affected by this incident, Amazon's stock price fell by $2.91 today, a drop of 0.09%, closing at $3223.82.

Congressman takes to Twitter to accuse Amazon of paying too little tax

Because he prevented the establishment of trade unions

Recently, Amazon's relationship with the U.S. Congress was strained due to the " union issue ". Star members of the U.S. Congress even took to Twitter to confront Amazon. The members accused Amazon of paying too little tax compared to its sales and profits and of exploiting tax loopholes. Amazon countered that it had paid billions of dollars in corporate taxes in the past few years.

The cause of the incident is that Amazon's operating storage center BHM1 in Bessemer, Alabama, will announce the voting results of nearly 6,000 employees to formally decide whether to join the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU).

This will be a major test that Amazon has faced for a long time. If the workers at Bessemer decide to join a union, then Amazon's other 100+ operating centers and 800,000 employees in the United States are likely to follow suit and join a union, completely changing Amazon's labor-capital structure in the United States.

Many employees working in Amazon warehouses have accused Amazon of being a sweatshop. Many times they don’t even have time to go to the bathroom and have to run to eat. Otherwise, they will be directly warned or even fired by their superiors.

The reason why Amazon has drawn the wrath of lawmakers is that it once tried to obstruct the union's vote , although it was later rejected by the National Labor Relations Board.

Amazon CEO Bezos publicly stated: Support the US government to increase corporate tax rates

On Tuesday, Bezos said in a statement: " The Biden administration plans to make bold investments in American infrastructure, and we support this policy . In the past, both Democrats and Republicans have supported infrastructure construction. Now is the time to work together and move forward together . We also recognize that investment requires compromises from all parties, including specific content and how to pay for it. We also support raising corporate tax rates . We look forward to Congress working together with the government to find the right and balanced solution to maintain or enhance the competitiveness of the United States. "

Last week, Biden announced that he would invest $2 trillion to renovate bridges, roads, public transportation facilities, airports and other transportation infrastructure. Part of the funds will be used for affordable housing programs, broadband projects, care for the elderly and disabled, etc.

In order to obtain funds, Biden announced that the corporate tax rate would be increased from 21% to 28%. In 2017, Trump reduced the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21% while in office. Bezos's statement at this time is intriguing, because many people have criticized Amazon for paying too little tax in the past.

Last May, as a presidential candidate, Biden told the media: " Amazon should start paying taxes ." Last week, Biden again criticized Amazon , saying that it used various loopholes to evade taxes and did not pay a penny of federal income tax.

Amazon did not pay a penny of federal income tax for two years, but it paid $162 million in taxes in 2019. Amazon's total revenue in 2020 was about $386 billion, but it benefited from various tax credits and deductions.
