Riots, curfews, Amazon boycotted by protests! A large number of sellers encountered tax raids!

The epidemic situation abroad is becoming increasingly serious, and riots are constantly happening. After the riots in the US Congress, France is also not at peace. The national riots will definitely affect the sellers' orders, and the sellers are really suffering.

Protests break out in several French cities

According to foreign media reports, protests broke out in many cities in France on the 30th local time, with about 32,000 people taking to the streets. The specific content of the protest was a bill being reviewed by the National Assembly.

Last November, more than 130,000 French people also held protests. Similar to the large-scale protests in France last November, this protest also included a protest against the French "General Security Law". It is reported that there is a content in the "General Security Law" that has been strongly opposed by French citizens, that is, it is clearly prohibited to take pictures of police officers, disclose the facial information and identity information of police officers, and violators will be punished.

It is understood that the demonstration quickly turned into a violent activity. Protesters in Paris, France, clashed with the police, and then the police used high-pressure water cannons to clear the scene. A total of 26 people have been arrested so far. In addition, many "yellow vest" protesters also appeared in this protest.

In addition to protests against the bill, a protest against Amazon also broke out in rural France.

Anti-Amazon protests break out in rural France

According to foreign media reports, as Amazon continues to expand new warehouses and expand its business in France, it has been protested in the southern town of Fourn near Nimes, France.

It is reported that Amazon purchased a 400,000 square meter site in the local area to build a new giant warehouse, which aroused strong dissatisfaction among local residents. Protesters surrounded the site, with a number of 800 to 1,000 people.

Protesters say they are against Amazon's tax manipulation and its abuse of workers . Now, in Fuen and other towns where Amazon is preparing to expand its infrastructure, every household hangs banners reading "No to giant warehouses" and "Amazon is a financial vampire."

It is understood that Amazon has been accused of using zero-hour contracts to exploit workers for huge profits during the epidemic. It recruited zero-hour workers when the order volume soared during the epidemic, paid them according to the workload, did not have the benefits of formal employees, and fired them immediately after the peak period.

Amazon France responded vaguely to the accusation: "Amazon's goal is to become a shopping platform known to the public."

France strengthens curfew measures, sellers may face another surge in orders

Under the severe epidemic situation, the holding of protests has undoubtedly exacerbated the spread of the new crown epidemic. Previously, in order to curb the spread of the new crown virus, France implemented a national curfew from 6 pm to 6 am the next day.

As of 9:00 a.m. on February 1, the number of confirmed cases in France is over 2.89 million. As it stands, France’s curfew seems to be of little effect.

In response to the accelerated spread of the epidemic, the French government announced that it would close its borders to countries other than the European Union from 00:00 on January 31, and would prohibit people from relevant countries from entering and leaving France except for "emergency reasons . "

In addition, non-food shopping malls in France with an area of more than 20,000 square meters will also be closed from January 31, and from February 1, all large supermarkets will strengthen the safe distance for customers to shop.

As many non-food shopping malls are closed, more French people will turn to online shopping, and sellers may usher in a new wave of opportunities for explosive sales.

In addition, a large number of sellers in the seller communication group and seller forum reported that they had received a notice from Amazon France.

Amazon sellers received tax inspection notice from France

One seller was panicked after receiving the notification and said, "I have deleted some sales records on the French site before, so it won't have any impact."

From the above notice, it can be learned that Amazon must provide the French tax authorities with data generated by sales on the Amazon account in 2020 before January 31, 2021, including sales and return information of all Amazon global websites shipped to France, information on goods shipped from France, or all transaction information of French companies.

In short, Amazon needs to provide sales data and tax information to the French tax authorities, and the purpose of this email is to inform everyone that sellers only need to access activity data in France through the reports provided by Amazon Seller Center.

Some sellers said that they would shudder every time they received a notification from Amazon. One seller complained about this notification, "This news came without any warning, and there was no buffer time at all."

However, some experienced sellers advised everyone not to panic and educated sellers. "The French tax authorities have previously announced a series of bills that will start with major cross-border e-commerce platforms and strictly eliminate the possibility of VAT fraud by monitoring the sales data of the platforms. "

The specific provisions in the French Anti-Fraud Act are:

  1. All e-commerce platform sellers must upload their French VAT number or European VAT number in the Seller Center.

  2. If the platform's supervision is not in place, the e-commerce platform will bear joint and several liability for value-added tax for sellers who fail to fulfill their obligations under the law and pay relevant taxes on behalf of the sellers. The online stores of relevant illegal accounts will also be frozen.

  3. All seller data on the platform will be "shared" with the French tax authorities. The "seller information notification" mainly includes: the seller's platform name, company registration address, contact information, sales platform link, product type and name, etc. Regardless of whether the seller is registered in France, as long as they sell in France, they need to comply with this law.

  4. If there is any violation, the platform will be fined 5%.

The seller also reminded: "Cross-border e-commerce sellers who used to evade VAT obligations by falsely reporting VAT by taking advantage of the fact that sales data, warehousing data, and logistics data were not interoperable with the tax bureau can no longer do so again. "

Other sellers also believe that: " Tax compliance is the general trend. Amazon is increasingly requiring compliance. Sellers should be aware of tax compliance and register for tax numbers in advance to avoid affecting normal sales in 2020. "

From this, we can see that Amazon will share sellers' sales data with the French tax authorities, and sellers should also comply with regulations to register tax numbers and pay taxes.
