As November approaches, the country has entered the cold winter mode, and even some warm southern cities have started to reach 30-15 degrees Celsius. The arrival of winter rain has added a bit of chill. But for Amazon sellers, every day without orders is a cold winter.

Fortunately, the traditional foreign trade peak season in the second half of the year is coming. Just as sellers are preparing for the upcoming various activities and promotions, Amazon's peak season storage fees have also begun to be levied. So when sellers see the huge storage fees in the background, they all sing: snowflakes are fluttering, the north wind is whistling

Amazon starts charging storage fees during peak season

It is learned that in the past two days, Amazon has deducted the storage fee for last month, and when the sellers checked the amount of this fee in the background, they all cried out:

"The peak season storage fee has started to be charged today. It hurts my heart."
"One cabinet plus storage fee, 35,000 US dollars."
"Storage fees during peak season are three times higher than usual, and I was deducted several thousand dollars."
"The storage fee was over $10,000. I have to change my career."

The fees range from a thousand dollars to tens of thousands of dollars. Some sellers even charge 40,000 or 50,000 dollars for storage. Some sellers joked: This is not storage fee, but my living expenses for the second half of the year.

Sellers have been complaining that they have not yet felt the joy of booming orders during this peak season, but have been frightened by the huge storage fees.

"This peak season doesn't make much money, and the storage fee is so high. Who can afford it?"

It is learned that according to Amazon's warehousing rules, the storage fees vary according to the size of the goods and the time of the year. It can be seen that from January to September, the charging standard is "standard size $0.75 per cubic foot , large size $0.48 per cubic foot; from October to December, the charging standard is $2.4 per cubic foot, large size $1.2 per cubic foot.

This also explains why the storage fees for sellers have surged recently. According to this charging standard, from October to December, Amazon's storage fees are about 2.5 to 3 times that of January to September, so many sellers have seen an increase in storage fees this month.

Faced with a decline in traffic and sluggish orders, many sellers have a large backlog of inventory that has not yet been cleared out. This month, peak season storage fees began to be deducted. The triple peak season storage fees have made the already tight sellers even worse off.

In addition to the normal peak season storage fees, some sellers are charged high excess storage fees by Amazon due to excessive inventory or other reasons, which is also worthy of attention.

The seller was charged 60,000 yuan in excess storage fees

Recently, a seller posted on a forum that he only found out after receiving the email that he would be charged the excess storage fee. He was so scared that he broke out in a cold sweat and wanted to cry but had no tears. He did not dare to tell his boss because he thought his boss would just let him go.

It was learned that the seller's products were large items. When replenishing the stock, he only looked at the number of pieces and did not pay attention to the volume of the goods, which resulted in excessive storage and he was charged an excess storage fee of 60,000 yuan.

According to the backend notification, the seller has used 2635.45 cubic feet, while the current storage limit is 1842 cubic feet, which has exceeded by more than 700.

The seller said that he had no profit to begin with, and now he has to pay 60,000 yuan in storage fees. This is a fatal blow to the seller, and he also faces the risk of being fired.

Some sellers also said that their companies had similar experiences:

Seller 1: They put the products on the shelves in the summer, and were charged excess storage fees for two months in April and May, which amounted to nearly 50,000 US dollars.

Seller 2: Today I downloaded the monthly warehouse rental report from the backend. The situation is similar to that of the poster. I have just taken over a new project with tens of thousands of stocks. Before October, they were basically unsalable products. The peak season warehouse rent started to be charged in October, which directly tripled!

Seller 3: I am in a similar situation, and the company's overseas warehouse still owes money, so it is not possible to transfer the money to the overseas warehouse.

For sellers, the longer the product is in Amazon warehouses, the more storage fees they are charged. Faced with this situation of being charged excessive storage fees, sellers should find ways to remove inventory and reduce losses.

In the comment section, many colleagues gave practical suggestions:

  • It is recommended to take advantage of the big discounts during Black Friday and Cyber Monday this month, and to do some off-site sales before Black Friday and Cyber Monday, giving up some profits and clearing a large part of the profits directly, so that you don’t have to continue to be charged excess fees later.

  • Find a freight forwarder to transfer the warehouse, ask for the price, and create a removal order if there is a handling fee for transferring the warehouse.

In view of the fact that many sellers have recently been charged huge storage fees, an experienced seller issued a reminder:

① Storage fees during peak season are three times higher than usual, especially for large items.
② If the storage exceeds the limit for one day, one month’s storage fee will be charged.
③It’s almost the peak season, so it’s best not to move it around, otherwise you may have more holes to fill.

The peak season is approaching, and we would like to remind all sellers to be cautious when stocking up, especially for seasonal products, and to do a good job of inventory management, improve the IPI score, and avoid being charged high excess storage fees.
