Auto parts LED category is banned! More than 30% of sellers start selling at low prices!

This year's peak season is a "tumultuous time" for Amazon sellers. Frequent page revisions have left many sellers in a state of panic, and brands have abused the number scanning trend and video verification to block sellers from the peak sales period, which has left them with lingering fears.

Recently, Amazon's latest ban on the sale of "light-emitting diode (LED) headlight conversion kits" has shaken the entire cross-border industry, making sellers of related categories feel insecure. According to sellers, some sellers of related products have already started a big sale at a low price.

It is learned that since October 17, sellers have received emails from Amazon: Starting from October 31, 2023, Amazon's US site will restrict the sales of light-emitting diode (LED) headlight conversion kits.

According to the reason mentioned in Amazon's email, "the light-emitting diode (LED) headlight conversion kit does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards", a seller analyzed that, in theory, all auto parts sold in the United States must comply with DOT standards, but the existing FMVSS108 regulatory standards do not include safety standards applicable to LED bulbs , which means that the auto parts LED category cannot be DOT certified, so related products will be judged as illegal.

According to reports, as early as 2019, Amazon actually launched a delisting campaign against LED headlights . At that time, many related products were also removed from the shelves by Amazon, but they were able to be put back on the shelves and sold normally later.

It is worth noting that compared with the delisting incident in 2019, Amazon's recent ban emails are large-scale mass mailings, covering a wider range. Judging from the notification emails, the intensity of the ban has also increased, so many sellers believe that the subsequent sales of related products will still be strictly restricted.

Therefore, under the sudden policy blow from Amazon a few days ago, some sellers seem to have begun to reduce prices to clear inventory.

Observe that, when looking at the Auto Parts LED category, you can see that many links are currently on sale, most of which are half-price sales:
"There are signs of clearance sales. LEDs in brand stores are all discounted by half price."
"30% of the links in the category are being slashed in price."

So far, Amazon has not responded to this, and the specific scope of the auto parts LED sales ban is unknown. It is recommended that relevant sellers, if they have not received relevant emails, should also prepare stocks carefully to prevent sales losses caused by policy changes.

In addition, the zero-yuan purchase of Apple phones on Amazon yesterday also sparked a wave of heated discussions in the cross-border circle.

It is learned that a seller accidentally discovered that on the evening of October 19, the "0 yuan purchase" of iPhone 15 appeared on Amazon.

As can be seen from the picture below, when you search for "iPhone" on Amazon, the search homepage will show multiple iPhone 15 phones with a limited time price of "US$0.01".

As the "top trend" in recent technology products, iPhone 15 has triggered many hot topics around the world, and has also attracted much attention in the cross-border circle. Therefore, once the news broke, it quickly attracted the attention of cross-border sellers, and many sellers were very surprised:
“I don’t understand how the hits work, but I was shocked.”
“Is this Amazon’s charity? To reduce inflation? Or is it that the operation set the wrong price?”

And more sellers are defeated on the road of "薅羊毛":
"I tried it, but it says the product is wrong and I can't order it. The link is broken now."
"I just went to see it, thinking I could also participate in the zero-dollar purchase and experience the exotic benefits, but in the end I was only allowed to see dogs."
“Page Not Found.”

It is understood that as of press time, all relevant links have been removed.

However, many sellers still caught a glimpse of clues from the page: judging from the title of the Apple link, the phone itself can indeed be purchased at a very low price, but it must be bundled with a monthly package of US$60 when purchasing the phone . If the phone is not bundled, it cannot be used, which is similar to the domestic operation of giving away a phone with a guaranteed minimum consumption of phone bills .

From this point of view, this does not seem to be a bug of Amazon. Some sellers speculate that this may be because the sales of iPhone 15 this year are not as expected , so they want to use this method to get some customers who do not have enough money but want to buy. According to the latest report from research firm Counterpoint Research, the sales of iPhone 15 series in China fell 4.5% compared with the iPhone 14 series in the first 17 days after its launch.

However, as of now, neither Apple nor Amazon has responded to this, and we have no way of knowing the specific situation. If there is any relevant news in the future, we will share it with all sellers in a timely manner.
