Website: https://trends.google.com Website Type: Search Analysis Founded: May 2006 Chinese: Google Trends

1. Basic Introduction

Google Trends is a public web utility of Google Inc., based on Google searches, that shows the volume of searches for a particular search term across all regions of the world.

On September 27, 2012, Google merged Google Trends into Google Search.

2. Features

Google Trends allows you to compare the relative popularity of two or more search terms, as well as reflect trends that change over time.

3. Introduction

Covered content: health, hot news, technology, business, sports events, entertainment

Available countries: United States, Argentina, Ireland, Austria, Australia, Brazil, Belgium, Poland, Germany, Russia, France, Philippines, Colombia, Netherlands, Canada, Malaysia, Peru, Mexico, Norway, Portugal, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, New Zealand, Italy, United Kingdom, India, Vietnam, Chile

Components

A: Related keywords, industry news and news release time;

B: Keyword change trend chart;

C: You can set the country, specific province, and time to generate Google Trends chart;

D: Search results for each sub-region, province, city, and language used. This allows us to understand which region has the most promising development prospects for this industry.

4. Function

1. Keyword function

Understand keyword traffic and get content marketing ideas. If you want to know the traffic data of a related keyword, then the Google Trends tool will be very useful to you.

View keyword trends by category: In order to provide more accurate data on keywords related to your business, Google Trends provides a service that displays specific trends for keywords based on categories.

Use Google Trends to determine when to publish content: Based on the keyword trends provided by Google Trends, you don’t have to spend time discussing the timing of publishing content.

Google Trends also provides the ability to display keywords that are trending upward.

2. Measure brand awareness

You can try entering your company name, your products or services, your competitors and suppliers in Google Trends. You can add up to five words in Google Trends to compare their search popularity. For example, enter the names of five computer hardware manufacturers. You can see the strength of the Apple brand from the Trends results in the figure below: more people search for the Apple brand than for the brands of its competitors.

3. Prepare for a business trip

Before you head out on an international trip, you can explore the latest hot trends for your destination (see below). For example, if you’re heading to Paris, set the country to France to see the latest search trends for that country. If you’re in the tech industry, you can narrow your focus further and change the category to Science/Tech to find search trends in that industry. At least you’ll know some of the hot topics that are currently being discussed in the country. (Even if you’re not traveling, this is a great way to get insights, news, and topics.)

4. Identify new markets

Knowing the relative popularity of search trends can also help you determine which new markets to prioritize for promotional activities. For example, if you sell cloud backup services and want to promote your services internationally, Google Trends can help you make that decision. According to Google Trends data (click this link to view Trends data: https://g.co/trends/ejzhU), after the United States, the second most searched country for cloud backup services is the United Kingdom, while Canada ranks eighth and France falls further down (17th). So it's clear that the United Kingdom is the best expansion target. However, please note that these rankings represent the relative percentage of searches within each country. Obviously, Trends data should not be the only data you use to make this decision, but it can help shape the decision.

5. Track technology trends

Google Trends data can show how tech trends change over time. Enter a tech-related keyword and then expand the time frame as long as possible to see how popularity changes. For example, the trends for Bitcoin and podcast (see Trends data: https://g.co/trends/Fc1HN) both initially peaked, then declined, and then experienced a recovery; while the term VOIP (Internet phone) reached a peak in search between 2005 and 2006 (see Trends information: https://g.co/trends/E6HT5) and has been steadily declining since then. One possible explanation for this is that as the technology becomes more widely known and understood, people begin to search for it less.

6. Communicate more accurately with your audience

Finally, Trends can help you filter between different words. For example, livestream and webcast both express similar meanings, but people currently search for livestream more frequently. Before 2008, webcast was a more common keyword. Therefore, Google Trends can help you choose words that are more familiar to more people to achieve better communication results.

5. Steps for using keywords

Enter the keywords you want to search for:

You can see the search volume trend of this keyword over a period of time. For example, Chrismas is a seasonal keyword, and the search volume gradually increases and reaches a peak before Christmas every year.

You can also view the search popularity in different regions of different countries by region.
