It is reported that during the National Day holiday, sellers experienced another "shock", as a large number of sellers' Amazon store backends saw notifications of [Account Deactivated] risk warnings.



In fact, the phenomenon of account blocking during the holidays is not unfamiliar, but this batch warning is not a traditional violation of the account blocking, but an update reminder about tax information: Amazon requires sellers to provide updated US tax identity information, otherwise they will face the risk of account deactivation and product removal.



The warning notice clearly states: "Please update your W-8 tax form in a timely manner. If the form is expired, your selling account will be temporarily suspended and your products will be removed until you submit your latest US tax identity information. Please note that it may take up to 24 hours for the submitted information to be processed."


The notice has been widely sent to sellers in multiple sites such as the United States and Japan. Account bans during holidays are commonplace, but the timing of this warning is quite awkward. During the National Day holiday, many sellers and operators were enjoying their holidays, and the sudden notice inevitably caused panic and dissatisfaction.


This tax identity information update is mainly for domestic accounts. It is reported that domestic accounts need to update the W-8 tax form every three years.


The W8 form is a tax form that the US Internal Revenue Service requires non-US citizens (including individuals, companies, trusts, etc.) to provide under certain circumstances. For Amazon sellers, if you are a non-US resident/company, you need to fill out a W8 form to prove your identity.


Sellers only need to submit the information as required, and there will be no major problems. Regarding how to deal with this warning, some enthusiastic sellers provided a reference process:

1. Click to enter the account status and select to solve the problem
2. You will be asked to provide updated US tax identity information, select Continue.
3. Start Seller Central tax information, select: "Business", "No".
4. Fill in company information

① For company information registration, select Business. For personal information registration, select Individual.


② Beneficial owner type: If you choose a company, fill in the company's English name or the company's pinyin form in the organization name; if you choose an individual, fill in the individual's pinyin form.


③Select the correct country and region (Sellers in Hong Kong, China, please select Hong Kong, China as the country where the organization is located).


5. Fill in the permanent address. (The mailing address is preferred for further communications with Amazon.)
6. Preview and sign. The seller should fill in the pinyin of the legal person's name (first name + last name, such as Zhang San, fill in San Zhang).
7. Finally, click Submit form to complete the tax investigation.

According to the above operation method, many sellers have passed the review and their backend store performance has disappeared. If the same situation occurs, sellers can also try this method to handle it.


If the business license has not been changed, that is, the legal person, address, etc. have not changed, you can fill in the information when you registered the store before. If the business license has been changed, fill it in according to the changed information. It can be solved very easily.


It is worth noting that Amazon has been taking frequent actions in taxation recently. At the end of September, Amazon issued a notice that it would collect and verify the value-added tax (VAT) registration information of EU member states, the United Kingdom, Norway and Switzerland, and require the VAT registration information (legal name and address) provided in the seller platform to be consistent with the information stored by the tax bureau.
