My C position

The following is some of my personal information. I beg you to give me some advice and help me find a job. I also hope to help me see if it is easy for someone like me to find a job outside. What is the salary level for finding a job outside? Thank you in advance!

Male, 29 years old, unmarried and childless, with a junior college degree (there was a person who took the self-taught undergraduate exam with me while I was in junior college, but he was careless and didn't take the degree exam).

The current status is that I am not making any progress, and there is a risk that my performance will continue to decline. There is no higher-level operation or development in the company to communicate and learn from, and I have not found better learning content on the Internet to improve myself (maybe it is because of my own reasons). So I can't find a better way to improve my performance and operation level, which makes me a little confused.

1. 4.5 years of operation experience, mainly white hat operation with in-site advertising promotion, all in the same company, average monthly sales of 90,000 US dollars in the first 3 years, net profit margin of about 25%, average monthly sales of about 60,000 US dollars in the most recent year, net profit margin of about 21%. In the first year, I just started to switch to operation, I was in the novice stage, and sales were relatively low;

The performance in the mid-term 2 years (21-22) was better than other times, with the highest monthly sales of about 140,000 US dollars. In the past two years, we have tried twice to achieve monthly sales of over 100,000 US dollars for 6 consecutive months. In the third year, the competitiveness of old products gradually declined, and the success rate of new products in the past year was extremely low (less than 10%), resulting in a sharp decline in performance. Products are also seasonal, and the performance in the off-season is only a quarter of that in the peak season.

2. I have some product selection ability. I occasionally participate in product selection during the operation process. I have independently developed some new products, but they are limited to some categories, mainly outdoor sports and garden home furnishings. I prefer standard products and subdivided functional products, and I am not proficient in all categories. I am relatively weak in decorative products or non-standard products. I have tried many related products, but the success rate is low, and I can't find the right promotion methods and techniques. When launching new products, I personally prefer to differentiate in terms of function, shape, style, material, color, accessories combination, cost control, etc.

3. I know some simple PS photo editing and PR video editing. I only know simple functions. I can make pictures of simple products, but I don't know how to do complex ones, such as lighting. I don't know how to do fine-tuning and video filter beautification, but I can learn and am willing to spend time learning. I mainly shoot pictures and videos with my mobile phone, which is mainly convenient and I use it more often. I am not very good at using SLR cameras. I can use them but I haven't learned how to take high-quality pictures or videos, but I am willing to learn.

4. Have some experience in purchasing and supplier exploration, mainly on the 1688 platform. Have an understanding and operation of sampling, minimum order quantity, cost, delivery time, payment period, material allocation, logistics and transportation, quality inspection and acceptance, etc.

5. Be familiar with all warehouse packaging, product quality inspection, product packaging and other related issues and processes, and be familiar with logistics freight forwarding docking and delivery processes.

Don't worry, you just haven't found the direction to improve. I have two suggestions:

Capability Dimension:
(1) Advertising. Judging from your performance, you probably haven’t taken over a hit product or a product line with long-term planning. That’s why you think there’s nothing to play with in advertising. Otherwise, there are many areas to play with. Let me give you three dimensions:

a. Incremental market or stock market? In the incremental market, the goal of advertising is to grab market share, so you need to be more aggressive. In the stock market, you can grab the market share of competitors or be profit-oriented, depending on your judgment of the category.

b. Your investment will be different depending on who you are competing with. For example, if your product has a first-mover advantage, then invest as soon as possible to gain a foothold. The purpose of advertising is to accelerate exposure, quickly collect data and iterate products, so that your products are constantly in a relative advantage. Or if your competitors are very conservative or small sellers with limited funds, you can try to play with the power of funds.

c. Your advertising strategy and purpose will be different depending on the stage you are in. For example, if you are a mid-level seller in the red ocean market, the basic strategy is to focus on long-tail traffic keywords, and use a low budget to test category traffic keywords. Later, slowly shift to grabbing the keyword ranking of big keywords. Assuming that you are already a top seller, a large part of the purpose of advertising is to resist new entrants, which is also a means to delay the profit cycle.

(2) Product selection. In most categories, product selection based solely on product attributes and costs has long been out of the question. Providing solutions that provide better experience based on user needs is the way to go in the long run. For example, qualitative interviews with users, communicating with brand users on needs through marketing, etc. In some companies, these are the tasks of product managers. So what use is this for operations? You can think about it.

(3) Supply chain. What you listed are basic operations. It is enough to understand the operations, but it is difficult to form an operational advantage. My understanding of the supply chain is to either improve the understanding of categories and products, such as where is the cost advantage? Where is the technical threshold? What experience does this design solve? Or use the information of the supply chain to assist in formulating your own product line strategy, such as what new direction the competitors are researching, how long will our new product definition have a relative advantage? Etc.

In every dimension, you can have a lot of new things to play with. It's just that your current company doesn't have this opportunity~

Interviewer's dimensions:
(1) Based on what you said, if I were an interviewer at a company of a certain size, points 2, 3, 4, and 5 would not add much points, and I would focus on assessing your practical operation and thinking on the first point. (I am not deliberately belittling you, I just want you to know the real situation)

(2) They value general abilities, such as thinking ability, communication ability, and logical ability. Even if you don’t have the opportunity to implement the things in the first suggestion, you can definitely study more excellent cases. I study domestic brand cases and foreign independent website cases. (In fact, many things are interoperable, including abilities and the practical logic in excellent cases).

I do not distinguish between the P line (professional) and the M line (management), because I always feel that if you understand the underlying logic, your value, whether in P or M, is the glue.

Finding a job is not that scary, but losing motivation is more scary. Come on!

You can have an interview. When we were recruiting before, we summarized the characteristics of the job seekers we liked:
1. Be able to talk about the details of the operation (especially the process of their own thinking and growth), rather than broadly talking about things that can be found on the Internet. Those who can only talk about general things are either muddled and muddle-headed, or they are faking their experiences and cramming at the last minute. When peers meet, these business things can be seen after a few words.

2. Prefer candidates who have worked on mid- to high-priced products, and do not consider candidates who come from companies that use the spiral strategy. Some people who come from companies that seem to have great performance, but once you calculate the profits, you will find that they are all for charity. Operations personnel who come from charity companies are likely to use price cuts as the core of their operations, and have no other advantages except for price cuts.
3. Other minor personal qualities: being enterprising but down-to-earth, and being able to express and communicate normally.

We have interviewed some male candidates, and many of them are eager for quick success and instant benefits during the interview. When it comes to the details of operation, they have no idea, but they have the mentality of getting rich overnight. We don't want such a risk point. Because this industry still requires a certain degree of trust. After all, every store is an asset. If you meet someone with a bad personality and unstable mentality, who knows what he will do one day. It is better to have poor ability than to have a flawed personality.

In the early stage of operation, you need to do addition. You don’t need to be proficient in everything, but you need to understand the process and logic. I think you have done a good job in this regard. In the later stage, you should try subtraction and multiplication.

During this period of operation, you can either continue to follow the P sequence to strengthen your achievements in a certain professional field, such as advertising, or product selection; or follow the M sequence to learn the art of management, separate yourself from the complicated affairs on the front line, and learn the logic of business operation and profit making, as well as the allocation of resources. If you want to work alone later, try to see if you can do it with the company's resources first.

Thank you for your answer, it is very helpful. You are right, the lack of control over the future is the reason for panic. At this age, there are more and more things to consider, and there are not many people around me who can communicate, so I am a little confused.

According to the blogger's description, he has 4.5 years of experience, but he has no particular expertise. If the blogger hopes to further improve his operational skills, it is recommended that he go to a large company with a large volume of categories to hone his skills.

If a blogger hopes to work on his own, it is recommended that he go to a small company, a company that needs operations and product selection, to hone his skills.
If a blogger hopes to change jobs and increase his salary, it is recommended not to consider anything else and just go where the salary is higher.

As an operator, I am anxious because I probably won't be able to select products, or the success rate of selecting products is low. I personally prefer to go it alone. This road is difficult, but if you succeed, you will feel that the hard work has paid off.

@智者不入爱河: Start with self-management and upward management, take the initiative to share and report. As your seniority increases, you can influence more junior operations staff. This way, at least you will have something to talk about during the interview.

Four and a half years of experience is enough to deal with more than 90% of Amazon's problems. This is already a great advantage. You didn't even ask others what they are good at. Isn't it inappropriate to analyze what others are not good at based on their work experience?

I'm in Shenzhen and happened to change jobs recently. Let me share my experience for your reference.

I am 32 years old, married with children, you are better than me in this respect.
Regarding academic qualifications, I only have a high school diploma, and you are far better than me in this respect.

Regarding work experience and ability, I started out as a solopreneur, taught myself how to work at Amazon, and after working for so many years and not being able to do well, I had no choice but to look for a job. You should be better than me in this regard.

Based on my experience in job interviews, if you are in Shenzhen, you will have no problem getting a base salary of 8K with your conditions, because I have a base salary of 8K. If you are more confident and well prepared during the interview, you should have no problem getting a base salary of 10K. As for commissions, there are indeed many pitfalls in this area. I don't have much experience, so you can learn more about it.

Regarding whether to work alone, my advice is that if you are very hesitant and entangled about whether to work alone, and you are worried about both the funds and the lack of ability, then it is best not to work alone. Believe me, when you have enough funds or ability, you will not doubt whether to work alone, and you will think more about whether to work alone. So it is not recommended that you work alone at this stage.

Finally, the basic salary of 2,400 in Guangzhou is really too low.

Brother, please don't become a boss and recruit people. I've been there and heard too many bosses who graduated from junior high school and opened cross-border e-commerce companies. They are not qualified and are very stingy. If you work alone, please don't recruit more people. I beg you.

@A56628 : Located in Xuchang, with similar experience as the blogger. Currently, the monthly sales are 160,000 US dollars, accounting for 80% of the company's total sales. The basic salary is 4200. The commission is about 0.5% of the sales. From the supplier to the logistics to the operation of this product, except for the money, I am responsible for everything else.

When many people talk about Amazon operations, they all end up working alone. Some people don’t even work alone, and their bosses suspect that they work alone as a sideline. But I feel that working alone is not an easy thing. Funds and ability are both essential. If you regard working alone as a way out of your job, I feel that the chance of failure is very high. Shouldn’t you feel that you have the ability and confidence before starting a business?

If you want to change jobs, the salary in Shenzhen should be higher. As for the specific amount, to be frank, it depends a lot on your interview performance and the polishing of your resume (most people will exaggerate a little, but being too exaggerated is definitely not okay). As for your ability, you can only truly know it after you get in. The platform and support provided by a good company are also very important.

A Sleeping Sheep • Guangzhou • 2024-05-07 14:30

Yes, it makes sense. I've seen some friends who have left their original platforms and are better off going to work.

Kite Chasing City • Huizhou • 2024-05-08 11:47

That makes sense. The company's previous performance was good. In addition to its own ability, there were also reasons for the platform. If you work alone, there are indeed too many factors to consider.

I am in a similar situation to you. I am from Guangzhou and have 4 years of experience in boutique operations. I work in Shenzhen. If you want to understand the market, you should go to more interviews and find out the basic salary level of your experience in the city. As an interviewer, you don't have to aim to get a job, you can also aim to explore the industry. Here are my experiences, company sizes, and salary data in Shenzhen over the past few years:

0-1 years as an operations assistant, joined a leading company in Longgang, Shenzhen, with a basic salary of 6.5k
1-2 years of experience as an operations specialist, joined a company with 100 employees, with a base salary of 8k
2-2.8 years as an operations specialist - later promoted to team leader, joined a company with 300 employees, basic salary 8.5-9
2.8-4 years of experience as an operations manager, join a new company with less than 5 people, basic salary 12,000

zac hary123456 • Shenzhen • 2024-05-07 18:13

First job: 0-8 months operation assistant
1-3 months salary 6k
3-6 months: After becoming a regular employee, you will get an extra 500 performance bonus, which means you can get a full monthly salary of 6.5k
June-August: Switch to operations, 7.5k per month

Second job: 1 month operation specialist: 8k for startups
Worked from 10 am to 7 pm, didn't punch in, ran away after working for a month, the supervisor merged the zombie links and the big store was closed

The third one: VC operation: 9 for trial period, 10 for regularization
VC newbie, the boss said that the performance will not be considered during the probation period, there is a running team, and it will be converted to a regular employee soon

I have to say that the Amazon industry is really anxious about age. The turnover rate of cross-border companies is very high, especially when you transfer from a traditional foreign trade company. The hard drive is permanent, but the soldiers are transient. After leaving the company for 2-3 years, I looked at the circle of friends of the former boss's team building and found that 80% of the people had changed. I was stunned. I guess the bosses are used to it. They probably treat these employees as cattle and horses, and replace them with a group of young cattle and horses after they have worked for 2-3 years. Therefore, the bosses of cross-border companies are generally less humane.

My GMV last year was about 10 million yuan, and my profit was about 1.5 million yuan. I am a white hat and have about 3 years of work experience. In Shenzhen, I can quote 12,000 yuan, and my bottom price is 10,000 yuan. The commission depends on the category. In Dongguan, I can quote 9,000-10,000 yuan, and my bottom price can be 8,000+ yuan. The commission depends on the category. However, I have little interview experience, so I suffered a loss and the base salary was too low.

To sum up, if you have the ability, the salary can be negotiated, and the base salary can be 3-5K higher than the market price. If you have average ability, the base salary can be 1-2K higher than the market price, and the final salary level should fall to the market average, which is the price you want.

@ThreeBucks : Keep launching new products, and increase sales and order volume to give the boss confidence. If AliExpress has a price advantage, just go with full hosting. The overtime fines for semi-hosting and POP are disgusting, and semi-hosting also has fines for incorrect weight and size.

At first, the boss only registered an account, not a brand. During the registration and filing period, he encountered two scanning and second review, and one enhanced video verification. Now there is no improvement. The only good thing is that there are several good reviews after pushing a few links. The rating is still acceptable.

Under normal circumstances, with four and a half years of experience, you only need to launch four or five products in a row in any category to roughly summarize the strategy and form. But in your case, your company should be in a relatively flat state. It seems that your experience is not gained by spending money, but by self-study and exploration. In Shenzhen, as long as you are hardworking enough, you can achieve results quickly. The good thing about Shenzhen is that many bosses will pay for your ideas, even if the ideas may lose money. This is a place where you can really spend the boss's money to realize your own ideas.

You don’t really need experience in product selection. If you really go for an interview for an operation, only start-ups will let you do product selection as well.

White hat operations are still very popular, but many companies also look at which category your experience comes from. If you are from a company in the same category, you will definitely get an offer;

It seems that your current company is small-scale and you need to do many things yourself. In fact, you should jump out and have a look; the base salary will definitely increase, and then choose a track you like and keep running~

Sunxin

The blogger has strong personal ability and is simply all-round. It is very similar to my experience in the previous company, which was to manage everything. Since I switched to the new company, I feel much more relaxed. The company has various departments, including product managers, product development, logistics, procurement, finance, designers, and artists, which reduces a lot of other chores in operation and allows me to concentrate on running the store. With experience like the blogger, there is no need to worry about finding a job. You can try to change to another company. The promotion and resources of different companies are different, so you can go further. The sea is wide for fish to leap, and the sky is high for birds to fly.

How much is your current salary plus commission? It's getting more and more competitive now. Finding a new job means at least half a year without commission, and you can only get the basic salary. It's better to open a store part-time and sell 1-2 products that you are sure of.

Anonymous user   • Guangzhou • 2024-05-06 16:12

This year, the base salary plus commission in the peak season is about 7-13K, but it will be very low in the off-season, about 5-7K in the off-season. I am looking into the direction of opening a store part-time, but I am hesitant because it requires a lot of investment.
