Walmart rents temporary space for containers! The White House encourages ports to operate 24/7! U.S. supply chain problems are effectively alleviated!

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, US President Biden met with representatives from Walmart, Best Buy, Food Lion, Mattel, CVS Health and Etsy at the White House on Monday to discuss how to solve supply chain problems.

Joe Metzger, Walmart's vice president of supply chain operations, said that a month ago, Walmart rented a temporary space near the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to stack containers in order to enhance the flow of goods and better prepare for peak season sales.

Joe Metzger added that by leasing space, Walmart will be able to handle more than 500 containers per day and gain more storage space for subsequent containers. In addition, Walmart has hired more than 200,000 new employees, including 50,000 employees dedicated to Walmart's supply chain operations, and Walmart is fully prepared for the peak season.

It is learned that Walmart's inventory soared 11.5% in the third quarter of 2021, and two-thirds of the goods sold by Walmart are produced domestically and are not very affected by port delays. The leasing of new space is an effective strategy for Walmart to further deal with supply chain problems. Previously, Walmart doubled its cargo volume by leasing private ships.

It is reported that at the meeting, Joe Metzger also told the president that the container throughput of US ports has increased by about 26%, especially the ports in Southern California, where the throughput has increased by 51%, and the domestic cargo shortage has been effectively alleviated.

At the end of the meeting, Biden said that the White House has been closely monitoring the situation at ports in Southern California and encouraged ports to operate around the clock to optimize asset utilization and avoid daytime traffic. At the same time, it is hoped that Walmart, FedEx and several other large companies will commit to extending warehouse hours so that truck drivers can deliver containers at night. Biden also told the public that the United States "is entering the holiday season in a very strong state" and will try to ensure that every citizen receives the holiday gifts they long for on time.
