The United States has passed a new bill! The "anti-counterfeiting efforts" have been further upgraded!

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, the U.S. House of Representatives announced the formal passage of the Consumer Notification Act, also known as the "Inform Consumers Act". The bill will impose mandatory orders on all third-party e-commerce platforms, especially larger platforms such as Amazon, eBay, and Facebook Marketplace, requiring them to verify the identity IDs of "high-volume sellers" in order to intensify efforts to combat counterfeit and shoddy products.

According to reports, "high-volume sellers" refer to sellers with annual sales of $5,000 or more, or annual sales of 200 orders. Under the Consumer Notification Act, sellers need to provide government ID, tax ID, bank account information and contact information to major e-commerce platforms, and provide consumers with email, phone number or other contact information so that consumers can contact the seller when they purchase problematic products.

In addition, the bill also requires major e-commerce platforms to provide hotlines for consumers to report and complain about sellers selling counterfeit and dangerous products.

Chris Carr, Attorney General of Georgia, said that in 2021, counterfeit products cost American consumers $69 billion, and the bill will ensure that the government curbs this through online platforms. Currently, in addition to Amazon, eBay, and Facebook Marketplace, there are more than 100 e-commerce platforms in the United States.

It is learned that at a press conference on Tuesday, Mike Combs, director of asset protection at The Home Depot, and Ben Dugan, director of CVS Health, both expressed support for the bill.

Ben Dugan added that the Consumer Notification Act would provide law enforcement with a basis to combat sellers who operate in the dark, thereby further combating the emergence of counterfeit and substandard products.
