Walmart to expand advertising business as demand from third-party sellers surges

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, Walmart recently announced the revenue of its advertising department for the first time: global advertising business revenue in 2021 was US$2.1 billion, and the number of cooperating advertisers more than doubled.

Compared with the total revenue of $572.8 billion, the advertising department's revenue is "a drop in the ocean." However, Walmart said it will develop plans to promote the growth of the advertising department in the future and help it achieve "high profits."

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said Walmart's expanded ability to handle money as the number of sellers, buyers and suppliers continues to grow has laid the foundation for growth in the advertising division.

Doug McMillon added that third-party sellers are driving growth in the global advertising market, and digital markets such as the United States, India and Mexico are expected to continue to grow.

Walmart Connect, Walmart's official advertising platform, is growing. In the past year, the number of active advertisers on Walmart Connect has increased by more than 130% year-on-year.

It is reported that the vision of Walmart's official advertising platform is to rank among the top ten in the global advertising market.

It is worth noting that Amazon previously revealed in its Q4 financial report that the company's advertising revenue in 2021 was as high as 31.2 billion US dollars. Although Walmart is currently far behind Amazon, it still has the opportunity to challenge successfully in the future.
