It is learned that according to foreign media reports, since October 2021, as of March 2022, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has seized a total of 3,229 counterfeit brand-name watches at the Port of Louisville, with a total value of up to US$81.5 million. It is reported that most of the 3,229 counterfeit watches are well-known brands such as Rolex, Audemars Piguet, Cartier, Gucci and Richard Miller. Moreover, these watches mainly come from China and then shipped to various parts of the United States. In addition, in fiscal year 2020, CBP seized 26,503 counterfeit goods nationwide in the United States, with a total value of nearly $1.3 billion. Among them, counterfeit watches accounted for a considerable share, and clothing and jewelry also accounted for a large share. It can be seen that CBP is strengthening supervision of the import of foreign products, especially some expensive well-known brands. According to CBP, e-commerce has led to a large number of low-value, small-package products being imported into the United States. More than 90% of counterfeit seizures occur in international mail and courier environments, sent to the United States through e-commerce platforms. However, many goods are mixed into the U.S. market through large containers, posing a hidden danger to the health, safety and economy of the United States. “Only legitimate cross-border trade can power the U.S. economy, and as U.S. trade grows at an unprecedented rate, CBP officers are working diligently to crack down on illegal suppliers,” said CBP Director LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke. "Consumers need to be aware that if high-value brands are being offered at unusually low prices, they are likely counterfeit," said Thomas Mahn, director of the Louisville Port Authority. "CBP encourages consumers to purchase expensive items from official or other reputable suppliers."
