It is learned that last week, Walmart held the "Walmart+Weekend" promotion from June 2nd to 5th. This is an online promotion event specially held for Walmart+ members, which is comparable to Amazon's Prime Day event. Using early consumer surveys and shopping data from the event, market research firm Numerator compared Walmart's Member Day to Amazon's Prime Day from multiple angles. The survey shows that when it comes to awareness, only 33% of Walmart buyers know "Walmart+Weekend", while 94% of Amazon buyers know Prime Day. However, the average order amount during Walmart Prime Day is higher than the average order amount on Walmart.com and the order amount during Amazon Prime Day in 2021. In addition, Walmart Prime Day buyers tended to shop for consumer goods. 59% of members bought groceries during the event; 7% bought health and beauty products; and 6% bought household items. Compared to the average shopper, Walmart+ Weekend shoppers are 20% more likely to be Amazon Prime members, 42% more likely to be rural residents, 17% more likely to be Gen X, and 16% more likely to be low-income. Numerator found that during Prime Day, June 2-5, 36% of Walmart.com consumers had been members for a year or more, 55% had joined in the past year, and 9% had joined as trial members in the past month. About 82% of users said they planned to continue their Walmart+ membership, while 2% planned to cancel. Free shipping is the main motivation for 83% of members to join the program, while free local delivery attracts 76% of consumers to join. Inflation affects 66% of Walmart members' purchase decisions during the promotion. 70% of Walmart Prime Day shoppers said they were very satisfied with the deals offered during the promotion, while only 60% of Amazon Prime Day shoppers were satisfied with the discounts. Every week, about 230 million shoppers and members visit Walmart's more than 10,500 stores and numerous e-commerce websites under 46 banners in 24 countries. The company employs about 2.3 million employees worldwide. Progressive Grocer's 2022 list of top food and consumer goods retailers in North America shows that Walmart US ranks first in the PG100 and Amazon ranks second in the PG100.
