Los Angeles and Long Beach ports in the United States seized $1 billion in counterfeit goods! Most of them came from China

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB) officers set a record after seizing $1 billion worth of counterfeit products from the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach this fiscal year, new data shows.

Customs officials said the amount of counterfeit goods seized this fiscal year has increased 38% over the amount of counterfeit products seized in the previous fiscal year. From October 2020 to September 2021, CBP seized approximately $725 million in counterfeit goods.

CBP officials said that historically, unscrupulous merchants would sell their products on counterfeit websites and underground channels, but with the rise of e-commerce, especially during the epidemic, these merchants began to quietly infiltrate some large e-commerce platforms.

At the warehouse, customs officers displayed several counterfeit goods, from fake Lysol disinfectant spray to imitation Nike shoes and Versace bags. Staff said that while many items looked authentic, they often had uneven stitching or spelling errors, and in some cases, the items could contain ingredients or paints that are toxic to the human body.

According to staff, most of the goods involved in counterfeit goods appear to come from China, with some of the most produced goods being shoes, clothing and handbags. As the holiday shopping season approaches, U.S. Customs is stepping up its counterfeit inspections at ports. On November 17, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers conducted an operation at the Port of Savannah.
