Etsy implements new policy for listing children's clothing! Effective September 8

Etsy is rolling out a major policy change focused on child safety in product listings to prevent any potential abuse or misunderstanding of minors.

Starting September 8, 2023, Etsy will implement enhanced guidelines specifically targeting minors in underwear, photos cropped to focus on private areas, or poses that may be considered inappropriate for their age. The enhanced guidelines are designed to provide consistent rules across the platform, making it easier for sellers to create listings that are safe for all audiences.

Etsy Tips for Sellers

While Etsy acknowledges the positive intentions of most sellers, different people perceive visual content differently. As part of its ongoing commitment to child safety, Etsy offers some helpful tips to sellers who include minors in their listings:

  1. No Lingerie Photos: Sellers are encouraged to avoid using images of children or minors in lingerie. Sellers should use mannequins or other methods of display that do not involve live models.

  2. Full-body images: When showing products worn by minors, sellers should choose full-body images. This is especially true for tight-fitting garments such as bodysuits, swimsuits, or leggings. Etsy recommends using images of the item itself, rather than images of people, when highlighting specific details.

  3. Age-appropriate poses and settings: Sellers are advised to ensure that images of minors are age-appropriate. Minors should be photographed in a neutral pose, with legs together or shoulder-width apart, looking directly at the camera. Avoid images of minors in the bathroom, shower, or in bed.

Etsy's new guidelines build on its existing policy, which prohibits child sexual abuse material and explicit content involving minors. The platform remains committed to promptly removing and reporting such content, emphasizing its dedication to child safety.

Additionally, Etsy encourages all sellers to work together to create a safe, welcoming environment for everyone in the community. For more information on these policy changes and the types of content allowed on the platform, sellers can visit the Etsy House Rules page.
