It is learned that according to foreign media reports, Newegg announced on Monday (August 28) that the company recently deployed Geek+'s autonomous mobile robot (AMR) system in its warehouse in Ontario, California to improve product sorting efficiency. The AMR system is equipped with dozens of Geek+ PS800 robots, which operate in designated areas and then lift and carry mobile shelves to workstations, where employees pick and scan products before shipping them to customers. The Geek+ system includes 24,360 product storage locations on hundreds of shelves. The P800 robots simultaneously glide on the floor of a designated area of the warehouse and move under the shelves. The robot's route and duties are assigned by the Geek+ software based on incoming customer orders. Once parked under a shelf, the robot lifts the shelf and delivers it to a warehouse employee a few yards away, allowing the employee to pick the product. The robot can also rotate the shelf to provide products from two opposite sides. All P800 robots can move at the same time without collision. The P800 robot, which resembles the flat disc of a large robotic vacuum cleaner, can travel over the ground at speeds of more than 3.5 miles per hour and lift and move items weighing more than 2,200 pounds. Newegg said that innovative robotic technology enables warehouse workers to pick products from shelves without having to walk long distances. The system improves efficiency and accuracy, making the picking, packing and shipping of products faster than traditional manual picking methods. Newegg has seen benefits such as improved employee safety, reduced work-related injuries and cost savings. “In our Ontario warehouse, the new Geek+ robotic system improves product sorting efficiency and optimizes storage space,” said Tim Zhou, Technology Manager at Newegg. “Newegg is constantly pursuing advanced technology solutions and is committed to providing the best service to our customers, and the new sorting system is part of this commitment.” “Our shelf-to-person picking system improves Newegg’s entire product picking process,” said Rick Defesta, Executive Vice President of Sales and Solutions at Geek+. “The benefits include increased efficiency and productivity, accurate execution, reduced labor costs, safety and ergonomics, and space optimization. These provide Newegg with a competitive advantage and a better customer experience.” Newegg and Geek+ worked together to determine the AMR’s footprint in the warehouse and trained Newegg employees to operate the system for picking. The system was fully implemented in about six weeks. It is learned that to date, Newegg has a total of seven warehouses in the United States. Its warehouse in Ontario covers an area of 240,000 square feet and was opened in September 2021. Newegg's other warehouses are located in Eastville and Industry City, California, Indianapolis, Indiana, Edison, New Jersey, Atlanta, California, and Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada.
