Walmart launches virtual hair dye trial function to upgrade user shopping experience

Walmart has recently launched a virtual hair color trial feature to help customers make purchasing decisions. Currently, this feature is only available on Walmart's iOS app.

Using augmented reality (AR) technology, customers can try on a variety of hair dye products in a virtual environment. Currently, hair dye brands that offer this feature on Walmart include Revlon, Lime Crime, Schwarzkopf, Clairol, Got2b, Nice and Easy, Madison Reed, SoftSsheen, Splat and EverPro.

Walmart said that the launch of the virtual hair dye trial function is part of Walmart's continuous innovation, aimed at providing customers with a more convenient and personalized shopping experience. In addition, virtual try-on technology helps it reduce customer return rates and promote more purchases.

Walmart has been increasing its use of AI-driven virtual try-on technology for years. In February, it launched a virtual try-on feature for AR glasses. Last October, Walmart partnered with AR beauty and fashion technology company Perfect Corp. to launch a virtual makeup feature that allows customers to apply cosmetics such as blush, lip gloss, eye shadow and bronzer in a virtual environment.

As early as 2019, Walmart launched an augmented reality feature called "View in Your Home" on its iOS app. Through this feature, customers can simply swipe the interface to see how Walmart furniture and decorative products will look in their own home space.

In 2022, Walmart acquired AR optical technology company Memomi to enhance its augmented virtual glasses try-on experience. It also acquired Zeekit, a virtual fitting room startup in 2021, which aims to use augmented reality technology to let shoppers try on clothes virtually.
