It is learned that the latest data from NPD Group shows that as of now, the purchase volume of American consumers has been significantly less than a year ago, and more than 80% of American consumers plan to reduce spending in the next three to six months.

As the online shopping craze subsides and consumer demand weakens, many sellers hope to make a big splash with the upcoming Prime Day promotion, and many sellers have already started actively preparing for the battle by stocking up and preheating their traffic.

However, as the saying goes: every peak season brings more troubles. In addition to the ongoing global supply chain problems and frequent logistics failures, the recent incidents of a large number of Amazon sellers' main pictures being modified have also caused sellers to feel troubled.

A large number of sellers’ main pictures have been changed, suspected to be operated by Amazon!

As we all know, Amazon's main picture is the first window for buyers to see the product, and its quality directly affects the click-through rate of the seller's products.

We learned that recently some sellers reported that the main picture of the product was suddenly changed to "Amazon style".

The seller said that on May 17, he suddenly discovered that the main image of a certain skus of a hot-selling product had been changed . After consulting customer service, he found out that a third-party seller had uploaded a higher-quality image and took away the image editing rights. Later, the seller told customer service that the brand had not authorized any other sellers, so the customer service helped change the image back to the original one.

Less than a week later, the same situation appeared in the SKU image of another new product of the seller .

Many sellers in this forum post also reported that they encountered similar situations:
"We are a clothing company. One link has more than a dozen colors. The first three pictures of one color were changed, but the backend editor still has the original pictures. The new pictures are also our products. We haven't solved it yet."
"We also encountered a similar situation. The main pictures were ABCD, and Amazon insisted on using B as the main picture. We tried to refresh and delete it and then upload it again. We also opened a case, but the customer service could not help."

Based on the experience of having the pictures altered, some sellers have concluded that the main pictures have the following three common features:

1. They are basically all American models, or they are not model pictures.
2. The picture style is similar to that of Amazon’s own products.
3. The pixels of all pictures are consistent with Amazon's main pictures, which are 1969*2560.

Based on this, the seller speculated that the modification of the main image was most likely performed by Amazon.

Some sellers also mentioned that the ownership of the links uploaded to Amazon actually belongs to Amazon. To put it bluntly, the sellers are only the managers of their own links, not the owners of the rights.

We have learned that, as of now, the sellers whose main pictures have been modified are all in the clothing category.

In March 2018, Amazon launched a service called "Brand New Photo Service" to provide FBA sellers with professional product images. The service is limited to certain categories of products, such as clothing, shoes, outdoor, jewelry, watches, books and music.

Therefore, the seller's speculation is not groundless.

However, some sellers mentioned that Amazon now prioritizes app display, so the main picture may be modified because the latecomer is more in line with Amazon's main picture requirements, and also shared some tips on Amazon's main picture display on the app:

Amazon main picture display logic on the APP side:
• The main image can be displayed with a width-to-height ratio of: 1:1.26
• Horizontal center + vertical center alignment display
• When width > height, for example: 2000*1400, the width is prioritized for full display
• When width < height, for example: 1400*2000, the height is prioritized for display
The best proportion size of the main picture on the APP:
• The best image aspect ratio: 1:1.26-1:1.3, which can maximize the reserved space
• Recommended drawing width and height size: 1580px*2000px (can also be larger)

As we all know, Amazon's requirements for main pictures are stricter than those for secondary pictures. If the seller's product main picture does not meet Amazon's standards, its exposure will be greatly reduced.

In this incident, many sellers reported that after the main picture was modified, the link was affected and sales plummeted.

Sales volume dropped by nearly 30%, and seller links were greatly affected!

We learned that some sellers reported that their Amazon main pictures had been modified. After some operations, they were successfully restored, but the restored links were affected, and sales dropped by nearly one-third.

Some sellers also said that after the main picture was modified, the conversion rate, which was originally good, dropped sharply.

We learned that in 2020, many Amazon sellers had their listings restricted because Amazon updated its new policy for main pictures and the main pictures were not standardized.

As of now, the cause of the incident in which the sellers’ main pictures were modified has not been clarified.

Here we would like to remind all sellers that if you want to avoid a drop in link conversion rate due to main images not meeting the specifications, you must pay attention to Amazon's main image rules, such as the main image must be a white background (RGB value 255*255*255), and the resolution of the longest side of the image should not be less than 1600 pixels to facilitate customers to zoom in and out of the image.

In addition, Prime Day is coming, and sellers should pay attention to the optimization of listing pages while actively preparing for stock. In addition to Amazon's main picture rules, sellers also need to pay attention to the following factors:

1. Prominent keywords
Prominent keywords must have two major elements: searchability and readability. When buyers enter keywords in the search box, the Amazon system will determine the relevance between the product and the keyword, and the search results will give priority to products that are highly relevant to the title.

2. Rich product description
Sellers can combine the product's own positioning and product characteristics to extract concise, clear and differentiated product selling points, and guide foreign consumers to understand the product's own essential value.

3. Brand Registration A+ Page
Sellers who have registered their brands can use A+ pages to display products with pictures and text. Data shows that the conversion rate of products using A+ pages will be about 5% higher than those without A+ pages.

Nowadays, the international situation is turbulent, the epidemic has recurred, logistics costs are rising... the cross-border e-commerce industry is facing numerous obstacles. The upcoming Amazon Prime Day is undoubtedly a major opportunity for sellers to break through.

I also wish all sellers a successful breakthrough and huge sales on this year’s Prime Day!
