It is learned that recently, a piece of news about Amazon's conversion of multiple warehouses into internal warehouses has swept the cross-border circle:

According to the notice from Amazon US, starting from August 18, 2024, SWF2, VGT2, IAH3, RFD2, TEB9, RFD2, TEB9, RDU2, LAX9 and RMN3 will all be transferred to internal warehouses and will no longer accept goods from the outside.

At the same time, if the goods sent to these warehouses were created before August 18, they will still be received and delivered normally . It is understood that Amazon's internal warehouse refers to a warehouse that Amazon uses specifically to meet internal needs and operations. This shift means that warehouses that originally provided storage and distribution services to sellers will be used only for internal operations and management of Amazon logistics.

Judging from feedback from the industry, some freight forwarders believe that the news is true and speculate that Amazon converted these warehouses into internal warehouses in preparation for the upgrade of Amazon's cross-border logistics service (AGL) .

At present, some freight forwarders have refused to accept reservations for relevant warehouses, and also stated that the number of reservations for these warehouses is currently very small . It is recommended that customers adjust their delivery plans in time and remind customers who have not yet shipped to re-establish warehouses.

One freight forwarder said that he consulted Amazon's official logistics and received a reply that the message had an incorrect interpretation of the notification.

Another freight forwarder pointed out that after verification, the message was a notice issued by Amazon's self-pickup department. RFD2, LAX9, RMN3, RDU2 and TEB9 simply no longer accept Amazon's self-pickup filps, not that they will not accept the goods .

On the one hand, affected by factors such as natural disasters and a surge in cargo volume in preparation for the peak season, the industry has frequently heard reports of Amazon warehouse overflows since the beginning of August. Currently, warehouses such as ABE8, RFD2, and LGB8 have all experienced warehousing delays and temporary closures.

Some sellers believe that Amazon assigns most sellers' shipments to relatively remote and unpopular Amazon warehouses in order to ease the pressure on popular warehouses and shorten warehouse receiving time . Previously, some sellers would choose less popular warehouses to replenish their stock to avoid the peak of warehouse explosion.

On the other hand, since the Amazon warehousing configuration fee came into effect, many sellers have chosen "Amazon Optimized Shipment Splitting" to reduce or even waive this fee. However, after testing, most of the shipments that chose this option were assigned to unpopular warehouses.

It is understood that on August 15, Amazon once again updated the new guidelines on this fee: Amazon US sellers can create shipments that are free of warehousing configuration service fees by sending five identical boxes or pallets.

However, contrary to expectations, based on feedback from sellers, most of the goods that took this action were assigned to unpopular warehouses , and the first-leg freight costs actually increased.

In addition, some sellers pointed out that many of these so-called unpopular warehouses are newly built warehouses by Amazon .

It is understood that in the face of competition from platforms such as Temu, SHEIN and Walmart, Amazon is stepping up its logistics expansion efforts to consolidate its competitiveness in the logistics field.
