Origin of the name

In December 2008, Umblr raised $4.5 million in Series B funding.

On April 20, 2010, it received US$10 million in Series C funding from Union Square Ventures and Spark Capital.

On November 19, 2010, it received US$30 million in Series D financing, led by Sequoia Capital, followed by Spark Capital and Union Square Ventures.

In September 2011, Tumblr completed its Series E financing and received $85 million from venture capital firms Greylock and Insight.
