Crunchbase was founded in 2007 by Michael Arrington. Initially, the company was owned by TechCrunch, and then acquired by AOL in 2010. In 2015, AOL, the parent company of CrunchBase, was acquired by Verizon for $4.4 billion. In the same year, Crunchbase was spun off from AOL with an investment of $6.5 million from Emergence Capital. Soon after, Crunchbase received a $2 million investment and launched a paid service plan.

Crunchbase was originally created to discover and track the development of startups. Later, with the evolution of time and multiple acquisitions and reforms, it has developed into today's version. Currently, Crunchbase contains information on all public and private companies in the world. This includes information on company founders, key positions, corporate investment and funding, news, and industry trends.

Product Introduction

Crunchbase's main products include Cruchbase Pro and Crunchbase Enterprise. The basic role of Cruchbase Pro is an investment and financing platform, helping B-side users find investment institutions or investment targets. In addition, it also provides paid services: the $29/month professional version can be exempted from ads and enable reminders and analysis functions; the $99/month enterprise version is for teams of more than 5 people, including professional version functions such as monitoring industry trends and tracking competitor businesses.

The latter Crunchbase Enterprise is more like an upgraded version of Pro, targeting sales teams and market researchers, providing enterprise classification query, search and analysis, and supporting API and CSV export.

In 2014, Crunchbase Pro enterprise service paid product was launched.

In April 2017, Crunchbase launched the first product in its new product line, Crunchbase Enterprise, which provides a range of additional services for enterprise teams.

Version fee

The free version allows you to check basic company information, investment institution information, and conduct simple searches;

The professional version is $29 per month, which eliminates ads and provides features such as reminders and analysis.

The $99/month Enterprise Edition is for teams of 5 or more and includes all the features of the Professional Edition, a better API, and integration with Salesforce.

Crunchbase Enterprise is essentially aimed at sales teams and can provide market trend analysis, etc.

Financing

In 2015, Crunchbase received $6.5 million in investment from Emergence Capital.

In November 2015, it received another $2 million in financing, with the investors not disclosed. Last year, it launched the Crunchbase Pro paid enterprise service product.

In April 2017, Crunchbase announced on its official website that the company had completed a $18 million Series B financing round, with investors including Mayfield Fund and its partner Rajeev Batra, and four other institutions including Felicis Ventures, Cowboy Ventures, Emergence Capital Partners and AOL following suit.

In November 2019, the enterprise service database company "Crunchbase" recently received US$30 million in Series C financing, led by Omers Ventures, with participation from Mayfield, Cowboy Ventures, Verizon, etc. It is reported that the funds will be mainly used for machine learning.
