history

In the first half of 2006, Tuenti was established.

In 2008, according to Google's global year-end summary, Tuenti ranked fourth. According to Google's 2009 report, Tuenti's global search volume growth rate has ranked third. According to Google's 2008 report, Tuenti ranked fourth in 2008. According to Alexa data ranking, Tuenti's popularity in Spain ranks 18th.

In 2010, Tuenti had 10 million users, and Alexa Internet ranked the site as the sixth most visited website in Spain.

On August 4, 2010, Telefónica acquired 85% of Tuenti's shares for €70 million, becoming its largest shareholder.

In the same year, they began developing a lightweight virtual mobile network operator that operated entirely under the Movistar (Telefónica) infrastructure. Later, in December, the service, which was not yet in development, was released to users of the social network under the "Tu" brand.

In 2011, it was estimated that over 15% of web traffic in Spain came from Tuenti, which at the time surpassed both Google and Facebook in Spanish traffic.

During 2012, Tuenti opened its platform to the world.

Since November 6, 2013, Telefónica owns 100% of the company following an agreement with the remaining shareholders.

In early 2014, Tuenti launched its own mobile operators in Mexico, Peru, and Argentina. In the same year, Tuenti services also became operational in Chile and Ecuador. The company reports that its mobile operators account for 98% of its revenue.

In 2015, Sebastian Muriel was appointed as the company's new CEO.

Social Network Module

Tuenti is the most popular social network in Spain and it has all the tools that are common to social networking sites. It allows users to set up profiles, upload photos and videos, connect and communicate with friends. Many other utilities, such as a chat application, the ability to create events and tag locations and places are also available from the start.

On February 1, 2016, former company employees leaked confidential information claiming that the social network was shutting down. Just one month later, the company rolled out updates to its mobile apps and website that removed all remaining social network features beyond the chat platform.
