ACA professional qualifications are recognized worldwide: the Institute of Chartered Accountants in the United Kingdom has signed membership recognition agreements with the accounting associations of the following countries: Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the European Community member states, Hong Kong and South Africa; allowing its members to apply to become members of these associations (under the premise of meeting certain specific conditions), and some of them are mutually recognized with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and thus can also be converted to American Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). ACA organizations have offices in 140 countries in the world.

ACA is equivalent to the Certified Public Accountant in the UK. In the UK, you must have an ATE (Authorized Training Employer) to guarantee you before you can study.

Examination Subjects

ICAEW will implement the new examination syllabus from September 2007. The ACA qualification examination is divided into two stages: the professional stage has 12 examinations and the advanced stage has 3 examinations.

For students who have CPA qualifications and participate in the CICPA program, ICAEW will exempt them from most subjects in the professional stage. The specific courses that need to be passed include: Business Management in the professional stage, 45-minute test of financial reporting, Business Environment in the advanced stage, Business Life cycle, and Advanced Case Study.

Students at the professional stage have four examination opportunities: March, June, September and December; students at the advanced stage have two examination opportunities: July and November.

In China

In May 2005, Wang Jun, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Finance of China, went to London to attend the celebration of the 125th anniversary of the establishment of ICAEW, which further enhanced the exchanges and cooperation between the accounting professions of the two countries.

In May 2006, with the support of the Ministry of Finance, ICAEW and the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants signed a memorandum of cooperation to jointly carry out the ACA training program of the Royal Institute of Chartered Accountants of the United Kingdom. CICPA members only need to complete the last four course examinations and case analysis. The Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants will provide a scholarship of RMB 26,000 to Chinese certified public accountants (CPAs) who pass the ACA examination.

Since 2006, ICAEW has been responsible for hosting and coordinating the examinations of the European Examination Area of ​​the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

From 2007 to 2009, under the advocacy of the Ministry of Finance’s leaders that “to learn about accounting culture, you must go to the UK”, ICAEW was responsible for the training of the Ministry of Finance’s CPA leaders in the UK for three consecutive years, making contributions to the cultivation of international talents for the Chinese accounting industry.

In February 2008, China's Ministry of Finance hired 12 well-known individuals as consultants to the Accounting Standards Committee, eight of whom were ICAEW members.

In November 2009, Wang Jun, Vice Minister of Finance of China, became the first honorary member of ICAEW outside the UK.

In 2008, Tsinghua University, ICAEW and PriceWaterhouseCoopers jointly launched the ACA-International Flying Start training program to jointly train ACAs in China. This was also the first time that the top three universities in China introduced the International Certified Public Accountant course into undergraduate teaching.

Since 2009, nearly 10 universities, including Tsinghua University, Zhengzhou University (211), Anhui University of Finance and Economics, Xi'an University of Finance and Economics, and Beijing University of Technology, have carried out or planned to carry out EICAEW-ACA projects.

In 2011, ICAEW authorized the UK-China Joint International Technical Training (Beijing) Center as a certified ICAEW education institution.
