E-Mart is a large - scale comprehensive supermarket under the Shinsegae Group of South Korea. Its biggest feature is the business model of "department store".

Company Introduction

In 1930, Shinsegae Group opened the first department store in Korean history and has gone through 75 years of history in the Korean distribution field.

Shinsegae Group has long been the leader of Korea's distribution industry. In 1930, Shinsegae Department Store officially opened, in 1969 it announced direct sales and introduced a department store membership card system, and in 1993 it introduced its first large-scale comprehensive supermarket. As of June 2005, Shinsegae Group operates 7 department stores and 81 large-scale comprehensive supermarkets in Korea. Currently, it has also opened 7 large-scale comprehensive supermarkets in China. It is a professional distribution company with 95 branches.

Development History

In 1997, South Korea's Shinsegae opened its first E-Mart supermarket in China in Shanghai, and E-Mart has now opened five branches in Shanghai.

By 2009, Shinsegae Group will own 9 department stores and 130 large-scale comprehensive supermarkets in South Korea, and more than 25 large-scale comprehensive supermarkets in China. At the same time, it will strive to achieve the goal of becoming one of the top 10 comprehensive distribution and retail companies in the world by 2012.

In 2014, Easymart announced that it would close all five stores in Tianjin and clear out their inventory, narrowing its sales to the East China region.

In 2015, E-Mart chose to enter the Chinese e-commerce market.

In July 2015, it joined hands with NetEase Kaola.

In October of the same year, it entered Tmall International and opened the emart official overseas flagship store;

During the pre-sale period of "Double 11" in 2015, it ranked 13th on the Tmall International store pre-sale TOP20 list with a total sales of 8.15774 million yuan.

On May 31, 2017, Chung Yong-jin, vice chairman of South Korea's Shinsegae Group, said that the group's E-Mart supermarkets will completely withdraw from the Chinese market.

On August 24, 2017, New World Group Vice Chairman Zheng Rongzhen announced that E-Mart will withdraw from China by the end of the year.

On September 24, 2017, according to sources from South Korea's distribution industry and investment banks, E-mart, a supermarket brand under South Korea's Shinsegae Group, has recently sold its five stores in Shanghai to Thailand's Charoen Pokphand Group, and the last store will be sorted out before the end of the year.
