About Nordstrom

Nordstrom started as a shoe store in Seattle and has now grown into a fashion + department store throughout the United States. It is developing rapidly, with an increasing number of stores and the introduction of new services.

Nordstrom is famous for its excellent customer service, generous shopping space design, and the ability to buy the best quality clothing for all family members in one stop. Store business philosophy: Give customers the best service, the best quality, and the best price.

Nordstrom has 252 stores in 34 states, of which 117 are full-line stores and 132 are discount stores. Nordstrom's national competitors include luxury retailers Bloomingdales, Lord & Taylor, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. Compared with its competitors, Nordstrom has the largest number of stores and the widest geographical distribution.

Activity

Nordstrom traditionally has only five specific discount events per year, four of which are mid-year sales, with specific sales in different departments. The mid-year sales for women and children are in May and November, and the mid-year sales for men are in mid-June and late December.

Nordstrom's biggest sale is the Anniversary Sale, which is usually held in July every year. A limited number of items that will be released in the fall will be delivered to Nordstrom early and sold at a huge discount. Ten days before the Anniversary Sale, Nordstrom members can make an appointment with a salesperson to purchase the sale items in advance.

Development History

-In 1901, Nordstrom opened its first store in Seattle, USA. At that time, the store was called Wallin & Nordstrom, named after its founders Carl F. Wallin and Johan Nordström. The store had a business area of only 20 square feet and its main business was selling shoes. It also provided shoe repair services to customers.

-In 1923, a second branch was added northeast of Seattle.

-In 1928, as the partnership between the two founders deteriorated, they negotiated and sold their respective shares to Nordstrom's three sons.

-In August 1930, Wallin & Nordstrom Shoe Store was officially renamed Nordstrom Shoe Store.

- In 1963, Nordstrom purchased Best's Apparel in Seattle and entered the women's clothing market. This move transformed Nordstrom from a single-category shoe specialty store retailer to a multi-category retailer, and thus began its transformation into a department store with richer and wider categories.

-In 1966, Nordstrom began to sell men's and children's clothing, greatly enriching its product categories.

-In 1968, the three Nordstrom brothers handed the company over to the third generation.

-In 1971, Nordstrom officially went public.

-In 1973, its sales exceeded $100 million, making it the largest clothing specialty store on the West Coast of the United States; in the same year, the first Nordstrom Rack opened a clearance center in the basement of a downtown Seattle store.

-In 1975, the business expanded to Alaska.

In 1998, Nordstrom began serving customers online at Nordstrom.com.

-In 2005, Nordstrom purchased a majority stake in Jeffrey.

In 2011, Nordstrom acquired Los Angeles-based HauteLook and bought a minority stake in children's clothing brand Peek.

-In 2012, Nordstrom became the only major retailer in the United States to sell a wide range of categories to well-known British fashion brands Topshop and Topman.

In 2014, the company acquired Trunk Club, which provides services to customers online through TrunkClub.com and its seven clubhouses.

In 2014, Nordstrom also opened a full-line store in the San Juan Mall in Puerto Rico.

In 2014, Nordstrom opened its first Canadian store at the Calgary Chinook Centre, further expanding its presence in Canada in 2015, 2016, and 2017 with full-line stores in Ottawa, British Columbia, and Toronto.
