What is Quora? Quora Review

Quora is an online question-and-answer website that aggregates many questions and answers and allows users to collaboratively edit questions and answers.

About Quora

Quora was founded by former Facebook employees Charlie Cheever and Adam D'Angelo in June 2009 and is headquartered in California, USA. Quora is known as the "foreign Zhihu".

The goal of Quora is to "dig out wiki knowledge that is not available on the Internet and give it strong social media attributes." Adam Angelo said: "We regard Quora as a knowledge market for people to share, learn and show."

Quora is also great for long-tail keyword research. Its "Related Questions" feature (which appears as you type a question) is your best way to learn about long-tail keywords. But more importantly, no matter what topic you search for, you can find related questions on Quora, as well as corresponding answers from opinion leaders in the field.

Since August 2018, most of mainland China cannot directly access Quora due to DNS pollution.

language

Before 2016, Quora only supported English.

In August 2016, Quora launched a Spanish version.

In early 2017, Quora added a French version.

In May 2017, a BETA version was released in German and Italian.

A Japanese beta version was launched in September 2017.

In April 2018, Beta versions were launched in Hindi, Portuguese, and Indonesian.

In addition, Quora plans to add Bengali, other versions of Marathi, Tamil, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, and Dutch.

Use of the Website

Quora was initially an invitation-only site, attracting many celebrities and smart people, such as Craig Newmark (founder of classified information site Craigslist), Mark Zuckerberg (founder of Facebook), and Ashton Kutcher (famous American actor). Quora has since been gradually opened up to users who can log in through Google or Facebook accounts, in order to prevent search engines from indexing content, but at the same time allow the public to participate. Harjeet Taggar, a venture capital partner at startup incubator Y Combinator, said in response to a question on Quora: "I would rather get information from 1,000 high-quality content sources than from more integrated channels." Quora's "affirmation" function and the function of voting to determine the order of answers will help the quality of content, but users can only control this. Quora also needs manual monitoring and verification of accounts - it will kick out fake Obamas and integrate duplicate questions.

Real-name policy

Quora requires users to register using their real name in full, rather than using an Internet pseudonym; while names do not need to be verified, the community can report fake names, ostensibly with the intention of increasing the credibility of answers. Users with a certain amount of activity on the site can choose to write answers anonymously, but this is not the default. Users can also log in using Google or Facebook accounts.
