It is learned that Amazon recently claimed in its latest economic report that they have invested as much as $34 billion in Virginia in the past decade. The report shows that since 2010, Amazon's investment in Virginia has accounted for 6% of the company's total investment in the United States, second only to Washington and California. Of this, northern Virginia received nearly 84% of the investment, totaling $28.5 billion, and the related investment in its Northern Virginia headquarters was valued at $2.5 billion. In addition, over the past decade, the headquarters in Northern Virginia has filled a total of 27,000 jobs. The latest data shows that its second headquarters in Arlington has hired a total of 1,600 corporate employees, and Amazon plans to hire at least 25,000 employees by 2030. That doesn’t include the company’s 96,000 indirect jobs in Virginia — 75,000 of which are in Northern Virginia, in retail, food service, construction, transportation and health care. Amazon said that number is also due to the company’s rapid growth in Virginia over the past decade.
