It is learned that the social networking giant Facebook announced at its annual conference on augmented reality and virtual reality technology that it will be renamed "Meta" from October 28, 2021. "Meta" means "beyond" in Greek, and a blue "infinite" character was added to emphasize the ambition and vision to become a leader in the metaverse, and said that the metaverse is the "next generation of the Internet." The company also changed its stock code from "FB" to "MVRS", effective December 1. Facebook will remain as a social media product without changing its name. CEO Zuckerberg said: "The new name is intended to reflect who we are and what we hope to build. Over time, I hope we are seen as a Metaverse company. Hopefully people will start to understand the Meta brand and the future we stand for." Zuckerberg said the company will focus on building virtual reality products that connect users through different mediums in the future. He predicted that 1 billion people will use Metaverse in the next decade. The company describes the Metaverse as a three-dimensional virtual space where users can create avatars that represent them. The new virtual reality world will allow users to play video games, watch movies, attend concerts, collaborate with colleagues, and hang out with friends without leaving their living rooms. Zuckerberg believes that the Facebook brand is too limited to represent what the company wants to do in the future. The new name and brand will represent Facebook's applications and its evolving work in augmented and virtual reality products. He also said that games are likely to be the first feature to pull users into the metaverse. Fitness classes are also being considered to attract users, as well as work and education features in the metaverse. Facebook is leaning towards giving users the option of using accounts independent of their social media accounts. It is reported that Facebook's first smart glasses, Ray-Ban Stories, are now on the market, equipped with dual cameras and support for photo/video recording functions, and its virtual reality helmet is also on the market. Zuckerberg has been considering changing the company's name since he acquired Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014. Shortly after the news of Facebook's name change, Wendy's, a fast food chain in the United States, changed its Twitter account to "Meat," saying it would "enter the Meataverse," which was quite ironic.
