It is learned that according to the fifth annual Retailer Preference Index released by customer data science Dunnhumby, Amazon once again ranked first in 2021, becoming the highest-scoring grocery retailer.

Amazon also topped the list in 2020, and the ratings reaffirmed its leading position in the grocery market. In addition, San Antonio-based HEB ranked second and Market Basket ranked third.

Among the 60 retailers surveyed, other grocery retailers with high overall customer preference index scores include (ranked from high to low):

  • Wegmans
  • Amazon Fresh
  • Aldi
  • Trader Joe's
  • Sam's Club
  • Costco
  • Walmart Neighborhood Market
  • Target
  • Publix
  • Walmart
  • BJs Wholesale
  • Fareway

It is worth noting that Amazon Fresh, a grocery store that was only launched in 2020, also made the list, successfully surpassing 55 other retailers and ranking fifth. Walmart Neighborhood Market and Walmart ranked tenth and thirteenth respectively, ranking relatively backward.
