Walmart plans to hire 50,000 new employees to cope with strong demand growth

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, according to the latest notice from Walmart’s human resources department, after two years of strong expansion, Walmart will recruit 50,000 employees in the United States to add staff to its stores, Sam’s Clubs and supply chain facilities.

Walmart also plans to expand its global technology team, hiring 5,000 new employees worldwide, a sign of the growing importance of technology to Walmart as it competes with Amazon.

Walmart has also gone on several hiring sprees since the pandemic began to meet growing demand at its stores and website, adding nearly 4,500 truck drivers to its private fleet last year, a hiring record.

Walmart's sales also continue to grow, with its U.S. comparable sales increasing 5.6% in the fourth quarter of last year and 6.4% for the full fiscal year, while total U.S. sales reached $393.2 billion in 2021.

Additionally, Walmart has been building out its supply chain business and capabilities as its online sales grow (albeit at a slower pace than last year) and as it rolls out third-party delivery and logistics services.

In the current tight labor market, Walmart is touting its high-paying recruiting and job benefits. Many Walmart jobs have a base pay of $12 an hour, but in specific positions and markets, the base pay can rise to $30 an hour.

It is undeniable that as the world's largest retailer, Walmart is still expanding, and it has employed 2.3 million employees worldwide. Walmart employees are distributed across the country and around the world, with more than 10 locations in the United States and multiple offices in India.
